VENOMOUS Unicorns: The Pride of Scotland

YES, you heard that right. Not only are unicorns real in this reality - though if you asked some they'd prefer them to just be fairy tales - but the Celtic Unicorn - the national animal of Scotland - is VENOMOUS! They're also the only Unicorn species that actually resemble how we picture a unicorn to look like.

The venom however, isn't located in their mouths, but their horns.

As the name suggests, these animals were once found throughout the isle of Britain and were used by Celtic warriors which the Romans wrote extensively about. In this following centuries however, their territory and numbers dwindled due to human intervention and today they're only found in the Scottish Highlands.

As you can probably guess by looking at the map above, this territory overlaps with another species that, while mythical in our reality, is a part of this reality's biodiversity - Loch Ness Monsters (Nessies).

Nessies are one of Celtic Unicorns' favorite prey animals along with deer and cows.

If you've read my chapter on the Loch Ness Monster, then you'll know that these creatures can be found throughout the North Sea. However, the reason why they're so closely associated with Loch Ness is because that where female Nessies like to lay their eggs and where they spend most of their time as juveniles.

Every year, female Nessies lay 20-30 eggs at a time near the shore of the Loch and afterwards coat the nest with a sticky substance that smells absolutely rancid in order to deter predators. While this is effective, it also takes it's toll on the mother who needs to get back in the water as soon as possible because while the egg goo might be a deterrent to most predators - including us - to a Celtic Unicorn, it's a dinner bell.

Celtic Unicorns don't go after the eggs, that's for 3-4 months down the road when the eggs hatch and they can go baby sea turtle on them. No they're after the mother, which is where the venom-filled horns come into play.

A unicorn will attack the mother Nessie by stabbing her with its horn. While her skin is tough, enough stabbings will eventually lead to a breaking of the skin. Once the skin is broken, the Unicorn releases its venom which paralyzes its victim, rendering it immobile and completely defenseless. Once the venom has taken full effect, the unicorns proceed to EAT HER ALIVE!

(Remember, Unicorns neigh when they make a kill. These neighs sound more like Nazgul screams, altering more Unicorns)

While horrible for a mother Nessie, it's great not only for the Unicorns, but business too as locals & tourists alike will flock to Loch Ness into order to watch a mass Loch Ness Monster egg laying followed a Unicorn feeding frenzy.

You can also get pretty close too since Celtic Unicorns are familiar with humans. Not super close but a good 15-20ft.
