Chapter 22 by Daylan Daylan

The Next Day? Or Does One More Thing Happen?

The Next Day

"Come on, Green!" you shout as you march ahead of him, your confidence rekindled as your loins still pleasantly throb from the night before, "Let's get some more Pokemon and then check out the Gym!"

"Are you sure?" Green asks, slowly walking behind you as he yawns due to having had to stay up late to ensure the file transferring his first video to Professor Oak completed, "Isn't the Viridian Gym rated eight stars by the Trainer's Association? Something that's usually challenged last or second to last?"

"Maybe not to CHALLENGE it," you reply, trying not to think too hard about how Professor Oak now owns a sex tape starring you, "but I still want to see what it's like!"

Green nods in understanding. "I suppose some early scouting might help get an idea of what to prepare for later on and what experienced trainers trend towards..."

"Then let's go!" you exclaim as you all but grab him by the hand and lead him towards Route 22.

In your studies you had read that Route 22 was a good place for Trainers who wanted to get their feet wet before heading into the dense forest to the north of the city and you could see the wisdom of it. The Route was in the direction of the Pokemon League's Victory Road so not many trainers had a reason to head that way and the grass was teaming with Rattatas, Pidgys, and Spearows. While you did not really have an interest in catching one of the rat Pokemon, you were determined to at least get one of the Flying-Types available as your studies had also shown that getting around the islands in a timely manner during the latter part of the journey all but necessitated being able to ride a Flying Pokemon eventually.

Unfortunately, your luck is bad in the sense that all you keep running into is Rattata after Rattata (though Green seems content to have captured one). If there was a silver lining to it all, you were getting some good experience in learning how to effectively use Charmander's moves and time to bond with your first Pokemon in general as you treated his minor wounds and dotted on him with snacks and drinks when he is showing signs of fatigue.

During one of your breaks, Green's Pokedex, which has the phone attachment on it, rings and when he answers you are surprised to hear Professor Oak on the other end. "I looked over the file you sent me," he says, "Not bad for a first recording... and excellent choice of subject matter. She's certainly matured into quite the woman, hasn't she?"

You blush but keep silent as Green nods and replies, "Y-Yes. Very... VERY much s-so."

"Though I have to ask you something," the Professor adds, "How much of her... message do you wish for me to pass on to that certain 'someone else' you both mentioned?"

Now it is Green's turn to blush as he looks at you for a moment and, to your own surprise, your only reaction is a shrug. "H-However much you deem appropriate, Professor," your companion finally says.

You hear Oak chuckle. "Well, I can't share much in the way of research data with a non-scientist but I'm not against giving him a little kick in the ego. The boy was bragging WAY too much when he was getting ready to leave, so learning he didn't actually 'ruin' anything and just earned himself more contempt might make him reassess his technique before someone REALLY humiliates him. So I'll give him a verbal summery of the important parts."

"Thank you, Professor," Green replies before hanging up and looking at you.

Your face is once again beet red as the reality of Professor Oak having now seen (and approved of) your sex tape sinks in. At the same time, you do find it amusing imagining the Professor telling Blue exactly what you thought of his technique as Blue's face twitches in anger and humiliation. As these twin trains of thought collide in your mind, Green lightly pokes you on the arm and asks, "Are... you okay?"

"Yeah," you reply, shaking your head to clear it of the distractions, "Let's... let's get back to training!"

Once more, you find yourself chasing off Rattata after Rattata and you are beginning to wonder if maybe all the birds have migrated for the season or something until suddenly, FINALLY, you spot a Spearow in the brush in front of you. The sun shines down on it almost like the Flying-Type is being highlighted by light from heaven itself and you lick your lips in eager anticipation as you begin creeping towards it.

"Just let me get close enough," you mutter, holding Charmander's Pokeball at the ready and Green hangs back, all but holding his breath until you finally toss the ball towards the Flying-Type you hope to catch and shout, "Now! Smokescreen followed by Scratch!"

The Spearow is caught completely off-guard both by your shout and by the face-full of noxious smoke your partner spews directly into its face once it fully materializes out of its ball. This leaves it open for what is less an actual scratch and more a full on open-handed smack across the beak that further leaves the Spearow off-ballance. Pulling a second Pokeball from your belt, you throw it at the dazed Pokemon and watch as it is absorbed inside.

Now it is your turn to hold your breath as the Pokeball hits the ground and shakes once.

Shakes twice.

Shakes a third time.

Then you hear the distinctive click of the Pokeball fully closing, signaling a successful capture.

You... you did it! Your first successful wild Pokemon capture is now behind you! With a victorious whoop you rush towards both Charmander and the Pokeball, giving the former a hug before scooping up the latter to gaze at it joyously.

Standing up to turn around and show off your prize to Green, you stop as you notice that he is staring at something behind you with wide eyes. Nervously looking in the same direction he is, you see another Trainer standing there. He is... rather portly and maybe just a little bit older than you. It does not help that he is wearing the kind of tank top, short cargo pants and safari hat that is normally worn by a much younger Bug Collector.

"Nice catch," he says, "You must be the chick dad said I was gonna meet out here. He said you'd be insanely hot and he sure was right."

"Uhhh... what?" you ask.

"No need to play innocent," he says with a smirk, "We got a Pokemon battle to get to, don't we?"

This is obviously a case of mistaken identity but still... a battle is a battle so maybe it is worth taking?

How's The Battle Go?
