Chapter 23 by Daylan Daylan

How's The Battle Go?

It's... Strange

"Okay Charmander," you say, tossing your Pokeball out once more to summon your firey Starter, "Let's get this over with!"

You try to project as much confidence as you can, hoping you can gain an edge through sheer intimidation. Inwardly, you are worried. Charmander has been fighting off-and-on for a while now and while you have keep him as refreshed as you can, he has to be a bit tired by now. On top of that your only other option, Spearow, is injured as well and probably still off kilter from the sudden capture. While it was not impossible that you might be able to get it to fight for you right away, it was usually considered a better idea to let the Pokemon be healed and have a chance to reorient itself first.

Your only hope is that this guy does not have that many Pokemon either or you might be overwhelmed. On top of that, hopefully none of his stuff is evolved or especially powerful or you are going to be in a lot of trou--

"Go! Metapod!"

Everything goes silent, both your and Green's jaws dropping in disbelief as the green Cocoon Pokemon appears out of the Pokeball. Still stunned, the man pounces on this moment to shout, "Okay Metapod! Let's get this started right! So make like my dick and HARDEN!"

The Metapod glistens in the sunlight, its armor thickening as it stands there and... does nothing else.

Because it cannot do anything else.

Because it is a freaking METAPOD.

Is this supposed to be some kind of wear down tactic?

If so, this guy picked the wrong Pokemon to use it on and you decide to make him painfully aware of that fact as you snap, "Charmander. Ember."

The small blast of mini-fireballs shoot from your Pokemon's mouth, the Metapod being knocked head over heels by the impact and being scoured by black burn marks. It still remains standing however so your opponent smirks as he points at you dramatically and cries, "Good job, Metapod! Keep it up and HARDEN!"

Your eyebrow twitches as the Metapod's armor grows stronger... and you again growl, "Ember."

Once more, the Bug-Type Pokemon is battered by your Fire-Type Pokemon's flames and, to your satisfaction, the Metapod falls over onto its side. The other trainer recalls the Pokemon but before you can ask him if that is it, he takes a second ball from his belt and throws it towards the battlefield.

"Metapod! GO!"

Once again, you and your companion can only gape in confusion as another Metapod appears before you and your Charmander.

"Now use Harden!"

Your teeth grit and you feel a vein throbbing in your forehead. "Ember."

Once more, Charmander lets loose with his flame, battering the other Pokemon and once again the other trainer strengthens its defenses. This time, it takes two more shots to finish the job but once the Metapod falls over you say, "Okay, I suppose that's all you go--"

"Metapod! GO!"

"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!"

"Not at all," the other trainer taunts, "Your Pokemon's gotta get tired eventually! And my Metapods will only get harder and harder!"

On that level, you have to admit, he has a point. Charmander is already sucking wind from its previous battles as well as taking down two of the high defense Pokemon this guy has thrown out. You are pretty sure he can take out this one as well but a quick look lets you see that the other trainer has one more Pokeball on his belt, so that is probably what he is going to pounce with after this round. Still, you have **** and once again go on the attack.

"Harden!"

"Ember."

"Harden!"

"Ember!"

"Harden!"

"EMBER!"

After another two rounds of this, the Metapod finally faints like the two before it and you brace yourself for whatever may come. This has to be the culmination of his strategy. At this point, you are not certain if your Pokemon has enough left to take out a Weedle and if he has something like a Butterfree, Venonat or even a Scyther waiting in the wings...

"GO! Kakuna!"

You had always heard about the phenomena where someone could get so angry or annoyed that they suddenly found themselves feeling completely calm and focused. This is your first time actually experiencing it as you feel something in your brain snap, your focus narrowing completely onto the battle in a way you have never felt yourself focus before.

"Charmander. Return," you say, calling the tired Pokemon back to its ball.

"All tuckered out?" the other trainer chuckles, "You obviously don't have any other Pokemon you can use so I think I'll take my 'payment' no--"

"Get out here, Spearow!"

The bird Pokemon appears, still looking confused and irritated. It turns to you and, for a moment, it looks like it is considering attacking... until it sees the cold, hard fury in your narrowed eyes and freezes in place. It stands there, like a Deerling in the headlights until you growl your single command.

"Peck."

With that, Spearow VERY quickly flaps off the ground and dashes at the Kakuna. Its fear gives it the ability to ignore whatever wounds you caused in the capture as the other trainer starts to command, "Kakuna! Har--"

He never finishes the command as your Spearow collides beak first with the other Kakuna, a loud crunch reverberating across the field as the Kakuna falls over instantly from the **** of the frenzied impact. You see some cracks in the Kakuna's shell and it almost seems to quiver in pain before it is recalled to its Pokeball. You are pretty sure you will feel sorry for the little guy later, once you calm down.

The other trainer... bursts into tears. "NOOOOOOOOO!" he all but screams, "He said you'd be weak! HE SAID YOU'D BE WEAK!"

Before you can say anything in reply, he turns on his heels and runs away, your rage quickly draining to confusion as you look over at Green and ask, "Do... you have ANY idea what that was about?"

Green shrugs in equal confusion and starts to say something before a new voice behind the two of you chimes in, "Oh my. I do believe that he was looking for me."

Who's This Now?
