Chapter 22 by Obedient Lorelei Obedient Lorelei

What does Natalie say?

Natalie declines the offer

For a moment, you think Natalie's not going to reply, gasping and bawling wordlessly, but then she manages to catch enough breath to whimper out a dignified and generous response.

"Thank-you, Minseo, but I lost the debate and I deserve the whole caning, as we agreed."

"Actually, young lady, I think you should call me Miss this week, since I am the boss, after all." From your recent perusal of the college records, you know that Minseo is in fact the junior by ten months, which might be why she feels the need to exert her authority at this early stage.

"Yes, Miss. I'm sorry, Miss." To her credit, Natalie accepts the new hierarchy without hesitation or, apparently, rancour.

"That's quite alright, Natalie. Just remember in future."

You can't tell whether Minseo is relieved that she won't be called upon to make good her offer or disappointed that her tute-partner hasn't yet been broken by the heavy beating, but you're now faced with the problem of where to put the remaining strokes. There might well be circumstances in which continuing to flog her pummelled backside would be reasonable—a judicial punishment for criminal activity, for example—but a voluntary penalty for coming second in a debate is not one of them.

Where will you thrash Natalie next?
