An old dream and a road trip

After gearing up, Kane and Jane followed Jonathan and his assistant, just outside his office a pair of black SUVs awaited them. Jonathan rode one of them while his assistant and the pair of hunters rode the other one, it would take them to the exit of an old abandoned service tunnel for Narville's subway. Sirius slept almost the whole trip, preferring to get some rest before the difficult task ahead of them.

Sirius' father was a soldier, he was a strict man but he cared deeply for his son and his wife, his mother was a warm and kind woman, but everything changed when one day she was informed that her husband was killed in action. The news devastated her and since then it was like she was a completely different person. She started drinking, ignoring her son and started getting involved with a suspicious, group that claimed it could help her deal with her loss.

It was a stormy night almost 30 years ago, the night Sirius old life ended. He woke up just to find out his arms and legs were tied with a strange mark drawn on his chest, it was dark but he could recognize he was in the basement of his house, surrounded by robed men and women chanting words he couldn't understand, his own mother wearing the same robes as them stood in front of him with a dagger on her hand

"Mom!? Mom!? What are you doing!? I'm scared!"

"It's ok Sirius, soon we'll be together with your father again and we'll all be happy, just like before." Sirius' mother was smiling at him but instead of calming him down it only filled the young Sirius with immense fear. But no matter how much he struggled he couldn't free himself.

"It's time acolyte, offer the sacrifice to our Master." A bearded man wearing an ornate robe instructed Sirius' mother, the chanting in the room got louder and more intense as the mother approached her son, ignoring his screams she raised the dagger in her hand...

Sirius closed his eyes but then he heard a loud bang and found his mother's body on the floor bleeding and inert, shortly after more shots echoed through the basement, the rest of the cultists couldn't escape and Sirius saw two men wearing priest robes, with guns on their hands scanning the area looking for survivors.

"Is that all of them Father Thomas?" The younger one asked the taller bald priest.

"I think so, but that was too close for comfort, things would have gotten ugly if they had finished the ritual" Answered the older priest.

"What about the kid?" The young priest asked after noticing Sirius, still tied on the floor, too shocked to even react, his eyes were still glued to the corpse of his mother until Father Thomas stood in front of him and stared directly into his eyes with a piercing gaze.

"He is coming with us." Father Thomas answered, he untied Sirius and carried him outside...

"rius....Sirius wake up!" Jane taps Sirius' shoulder and makes him suddenly wake up. "Ms. Petra says we are almost there."

Kane woke up and rubbed his eyes. it's been a while since the last time he dreamed about that night and he couldn't help to think that it was a bad omen for their next job.

After he was "adopted" by Father Thomas, Sirius spent the rest of his childhood learning about the dark, evil, threats that humanity is blissfully unaware of, and how to deal with them. Father Thomas was a member of a secret order of the Church that dealt with; Satanists, warlocks, witches, demons and other supernatural entities. During that time Sirius showed great talent in both martial arts and handling firearms, making him rise above the other trainees.

After years of intense training, he started traveling with Father Thomas across the world, helping him hunt and eliminate any demonic threat whether they were actual devils or as Father Thomas called them "poor souls who passed the point of no return" like Sirius' mother. The Church expected Sirius to eventually take Father Thomas place as one of their top enforcers, yet with every mission, with every bullet he fired and with every human he killed Kane became more disgruntled with the Church.

Eventually Father Thomas grew too old and Sirius started going to missions on his own, that's when the Church started to notice how twisted Kane had become after so many years killing monsters. He was promptly expelled from the Church after they realized that without Father Thomas to rein him in, he was too volatile and dangerous, with no compassion or respect for human life, yet still too useful to cut him off completely.

He spent the next years working as a freelancer, taking any kind of job as long as the pay was good, it was during one of those jobs where he would eventually meet Jane when she was just a young girl, and in a rare moment of compassion for him, maybe as a last act of respect for his former mentor, decided to take her in and train her like he was trained by Father Thomas

The vehicle reaches its destination a few miles outside Narville's limits. Jonathan's assistant, Ms. Petra gets out of the vehicle and Sirius and Jane follow her, next to the road and behind some bushes there's an old trapdoor, that's their way in.
