Chapter 3 by protress protress

Who are you?

Adam Gray

Adam Gray was one of the newer members of the order. While he did have knowledge of the magic arts used by the order, he was by no means proficient at it.

He was lucky to get to one of the safe houses as the outbreak started. He was at work when it started, getting a text message from someone in the order, telling him what was happening. After getting the message, he immediately ditched work and scrambled to the nearest safe house. His job wasn't going to matter during this outbreak. Getting to his car, Adam took off for the address he had been given. Traffic on the highway was normal at first, but as he drove on, it started to get thick. To avoid getting stuck in traffic and grabbed, Adam exited the highway and took an alternative path. On the radio, news of the outbreak was coming out. They weren't sure what it was at first, but as he got closer to his destination, the news became more panicked.

Adam arrived at the address safe house to find a major electronics store. By now, the parking lot was almost completely empty. There were only a few cars there. The sounds of distant sirens could be heard. No bothering to properly park, Adam stopped his car behind the store. He grabbed his bag and got out of the car, making sure to lock it. It might need a car later, he thought as he approached the building. Following the instructions, Adam approached a door meant for employees. He took out the pendant the order had given him and presented it to the door. The pendant glowed purple for a moment, then a mechanical click came from the door as it unlocked.

Adam quickly opened the door and went in. He took a few steps forward before turning to the wall on his left. He raised the pendant again and as it glowed, a hidden panel in the wall opened to reveal to stairwell going down. From what Adam had heard, a lot of the safe houses were built underground, sometimes beneath a normal basement. Descending the stairs, he found another door, though this one looked much more durable than most doors. He repeated the pendant process and the door unlocked.

As Adam entered, the lights inside flickered on. So I guess I'm the first one here, Adam thought to himself. I thought one of the employee's of the store was a member of the order. Why aren't they here?

Adam started to explore the safe house. After the entrance, there was a small barricade made of cement about six feet from the door. It was high enough to let the average adult duck behind and shot at someone coming through the door. Similar barricades were on the left and right. Six feet behind each barricade was another door. The floor of the room was concert. There were some alarm buttons on the wall, near the doors. Which door first, Adam thought as he examined the room. He pointed to the door in the middle. "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe," he said as he randomly pointed to a different door with each word. He ended up pointing to the door on the right.

Adam approached the door on the right and turned the knob. The door wasn't locked, so it opened. Behind the door was a hallway with doors on either side. He opened the nearest door to find a small, spartan bedroom. A small bed was on the opposite side with an end table next to it. "I guess I'll take this room," Adam said as he placed his bag on the bed before checking the other rooms. There were a dozen bedrooms like that one in the hallway. Halfway down the hall, there was a restroom with a couple stalls and a few showers. At the very end of the hallway was a small kitchen, with an empty fridge, a stove, a microwave, dishwasher, and a sink. On the walls, there were some cabinets with plates and utensils. There was also a small dinning table with a few chairs, though it was probably not meant for everyone here to use at the same time.

Adam turned around and returned to the entrance. This time he opened the left door. Behind this door was another hallway, except inside of bedrooms, there were prison cells. "Probably here to keep the converted," he said as he explored the hall. There wasn't much else there. Adam turned back and returned to the entrance.

"Last door," Adam said as he approached the door in the middle. Behind this door there was a hallway that immediately branched to the left and right. Looking around, he found the branches eventually reconnect. The halls surrounded a few rooms. The first Adam checked was a storage room, filled with medicine, food, and other supplies. The second room was a utility room with a large tank. The third was the generator, which was humming loudly when he opened the door. The fourth room had some communication equipment set up, like a radio and a computer. The fifth room was an armory, with some guns, ammo, and a few other weapons. The sixth and final room was clearly set up for doing magic. There were some bookshelves on the walls and some vials. At the other side of the room was what looked like a bed used for operating on someone.

As Adam checked this room, he found a clipboard with laminated paper on it. Picking it up, Adam started to read it.

Welcome to safe house 7443. If you have just arrived, you will want to undergo the protection rituals. There should be a bed at the end of this room. Remove your shirt and lay down on the bed. Next to the bed, there is a red button. Press it to start the ritual. The ritual may knock you out for a few minutes or hours, so you may want to prepare before hand.

"I better get this out of the way," Adam said as he returned the clipboard. He walked to the bed, taking his shirt off as he approached. The bed had an outline of a human body on it, showing how to properly lay down on it. He laid down on the bed and saw a clock on the way. The current time was 1 PM. Looking around, Adam found the red button. Positioning himself, Adam took a deep breath before pressing the button. As soon as he did, restraints came out and secured his legs, arms, fingers, and torso. A mechanical whirl started as something descended from above. As it became clearer, Adam saw three things coming down from the ceiling. One above his lower chest and one above each of this hands. They were cylinder in shape. As they drew near, a sigil started to glow on each. He couldn't make out the ones for those over his hands, but he could see the other one. The cylinders pressed against his skin and he started to like it was burning. As the pain flooded his head, he could see a glow coming from the floor under the bed, but he couldn't see the source. Not that was trying to see it. With all the pain he was feeling, it was a struggle to stay conscious. Soon, everything went dark.

When Adam came out, the pain was gone. He soon remembered what he was doing. The restraints and the cylinders were gone. Looking around, he saw the clock. The time was 6 PM. "Geez," Adam croaked. "That's not a few hours." Lifting himself up, he saw a faint sigil on his chest. It almost looked like it was burned onto him. It still hurt a little, but not nearly as bad as it had before. Checking his hands, he found a sigil on each, but the design of them was different from the one on his chest.

Adam got up and retrieved his shirt. "Wonder if the clipboard has anything else to say," he said as he approached it. Picking it up again, Adam looked over the papers on it and found something.

Once you have the ritual performed, you should be able to resist to call of Lilith once you are infected. This will require you to maintain your will power, so do not give up or get depressed.

"Yeah, that's the best way to stop someone from getting depressed," Adam sarcastically noted before he continued.

To capture a succubus/incubus, you will need to place one of your hands on them. The most effective points of placement are near the heart and the head. The process may take time depending on how much they resist. The process finishes once a tattoo appears above their crotch. Willpower is needed to capture and maintain control of them. If you can get a succubus/incubus to ally with you of their own will, that will make the process easier.

"Not sure how I would do that," Adam commented.

There wasn't much else on the papers, just explaining the layout of the safe house. "I guess I should go test out the sigils."

AN: I was planning on having the first capture in this chapter, but I went into too much detail about the safe house, so I figured I would do that in the next chapter.

How does Adam go about testing the sigils?
