Supply run

You think for a moment before answering, your face scrunching in concentration. You are essentially boxed in a church at the moment, and, while you are, in theory, safe from the demons in here, you will need provisions.

"Okay, we should be safe on blessed grounds, but we will need supplies! There is a food drive pantry and a kitchen that was stocked for tomorrow's services. While this food is for the needy, given the circumstances..."

"We are the needy," Mary finishes.

"Exactly," you nod to her. "Now, the pantry and kitchen are in the building connected to the main chapel. If we can reach it, we will be in great shape."

Taking a breath, you turn to your sister and embrace her.

"I'm glad you're here, sis," Kristin says smiling at you.

"Me too."

"Okay let's go! I really feel weird about running across the church grounds," Mary says, worried. However she does have a point.

"Right, Mary, unlock the door, and we will be right behind you," you say gently, wheeling the bike toward the door.

The door swings wide and Mary steps through, followed by Kristin, with you bringing up the rear. You wanted to be behind Mary and Kristin in case something went wrong; you don't want anyone falling behind unnoticed.

Your trio makes it across the church property with no trouble and in good time. Approaching the main chapel, however, you quickly realize a problem.

"No! No no no!" Mary struggles with the door, but to no avail: locked!

At that moment a piercing sound splits the air. You all slap your hands over your ears, but the sound is overwhelming. Your vision blurs as you look around for any hint to the sound's source. A glowing orb catches your eye, about 50 feet away, stuck into the asphalt of the parking lot. With a monumental effort and prayers the whole way, you make it within ten feet of the object. The sound is now almost too much for you to think, but you manage to close the distance. It appears that the orb fell from above, as a small crater has been left in the pavement. With the last of your effort, you grab a chunk of asphalt and slam it into the orb.

Without the explosion or fire you expected from such a clearly demonic object, the orb crushes under the blow and the sound stops at once. You breathe a sigh of relief and thank God for his support. You quickly make your way back to the chapel and find Mary and Kristin sitting on the steps in front of the chapel, shaking their heads as they recover. On a whim, you try the door, and find it unlocked!

"Thank you lord..." you whisper as the three of you stumble inside.
