"Ahhh," says Jane, nodding dully. "Well... Lotan Rahab, I know this will sound stupid, but have I seen you somewhere before? Because you look really familiar..."

Rahab smiles at this. "I simply have one of those faces, Ms. Jane." He takes another sip of espresso.

Kane rolls his eyes. "Listen, I assume you aren't just doing this to get your jollies, though fuck, after talking to you, I could be wrong..."

"Personal amusement is perhaps a large share of my arrival in this locale," agrees Rahab. "The chance to see a focal point up close..." He sighs fondly. "I have not had the opportunity for some small time. And it is proving quite entertaining, as well as educational. But there is another reason for my being here in this fashion, Mr. Kane, and it is shall we say, a sense of personal responsibility." He takes one last sip of his espresso, then sets the cup before him. "I was, you see, an... acquaintance of your mother's, Mr. Kane."

Sirius feels a chill. "What...?"

"She might have mentioned me to you on a few occasions," says Rahab. "Indeed, I fear I bear a... slight part in her... shall we say, misguided parenting towards you at the end of her life."

"You... you are lucky I don't shoot your fucking spook ass," snarls Kane.

"Spill it, asshole," says Sirius, trying to will himself to raise his gun on Rahab. Somehow, his hand just won't. It isn't paralyzed, mind you--he just simply... can't point a weapon at the man.

"Do not place your trust in the weapons of the Usurper," says Lotan Rahab softly. "They may be effective now, but as this **** continues and the Bride's power grows, His power weakens."

"The... Usurper?" mutters Jane, baffled.

"God," says Kane bluntly. "He means God."

Lotan Rahab clicks his tongue at that, picking up a hat and walking stick that are resting nearby. "Such a pretentious styling He's taken these days. As if He were the sole deity in creation. No wonder the Bride hates him so now."

Kane ignores him. "Some cultists and other Satanistic assholes have this whole line of bullshit claiming God is a liar, and by fighting Him, they're just trying to restore the world to what it should be. Which somehow involves a lot of killing people."

"As does, strangely, keeping them from their task," says Rahab, rising from his seat. "But we are not here to debate cosmology and ethics. I came to give you a warning, and I have done so. I have also come to give you a chance for protection should you wish it." He raises his left hand to the table and opens it. Two metal discs, the size of half-dollars, fall onto it with a heavy clank. "Talismans, warded by my power. They will at least give you a chance to come out of here with your souls in tact, should you wish to keep them." He smiles at the pair. "Adieu." He pulls his hand back, and snaps his fingers again.

'California! A prophet on the burnin' shore! California! I'll be knockin' on the golden door!' Sirius and Jane glance around as the music begins again.

'Like an angel! Standin' in a shaft of light! Risin' up to paradise! I know I'm gonna to shine!' Lotan Rahab smiles, and walks away towards the stairway. The hunters blink, as if feeling some strange influence leaving their skulls. 'An' you've all been asleep, you would not believe me!'

The pair turn towards the stairway, where they can just see Rahab's shadow as he walks up it. 'An' them voices tellin' me, you will soon receive me!' They rush after him. 'An' standin' on the beach, the sea will part before me! Fire wheel burnin' in the air! An' you will follow me, an' we will ride to glory! Way up, the middle a the air!' As they reach the stairway, they turn hoping to catch a glimpse of the man who appears to have moved with astonishing speed.

'An' I'll call down thunder and speak the same! An' my word fills the sky with flame!' Kane peers at the top of the stair, trying to catch a glimpse... 'An' might and glory gonna be my name!' Kane sees then as if staring over an incredible distance a vast, Polymephus-like bulk, tall as a mountain, its flesh horridly gelatinousnothing. Lotan Rahab has vanished, as if he was never there.

'An' men gonna light my way!' cries out the jukebox before suddenly cutting out. Jane gulps. "Well, that was creepy."

"Wizards are like that," says Kane dully. The pair go back to the table, where Rahab's medallions still rest. They see two discs of a strange greenish-gold metal, both engraved with a symbol of a six-pointed branch. Both are filled with a strange impression of power...
