Chapter 65 by Sarckle Sarckle

Fight for riches? Or skirt for training?

Risk it for the biscuit.

You can beat this gang of trainers, no problem. And if by some chance you don’t, it’s just a day of labor. It can’t be worse than your day with Blue. But you can’t think like that, you ARE going to win and you will get those riches.

You step onto the bridge and hear someone shout, “Look alive! Challenger on deck!” The group of trainers scatter spreading out across the bridge.

You come to the first trainer and ask, “So what I just need to beat all of you?”

He smirks, “Yeah, you just need to beat all 5 of us in single pokemon battles. One pokemon each.” Right only 1 pokemon per battle, that could be good or bad. On the one hand it means you only need to beat 5 pokemon, but it also limits your team.

The first trainer throws out an Ekans. You throw out Wartortle, ready to battle. Your pokemon exchange blows. When everything settles, Wartortle stands victorious over the snake pokemon. Success! You’ve won and Wartortle seems fine to go into another battle. 1 down, 4 to go. Then you notice Wartortle wince in pain. Uh, oh, he’s been poisoned. You can’t risk letting him fight again.

The next three battles resolve in a similar manner. You win, but your pokemon from each battle isn’t able to continue on through another battle. When you come face to face with the final trainer, your last two pokemon are Runt and Combee. It’s an easy choice there, Combee is the weakest link on your team while Runt is one of the strongest.

“You’ve done well. Most of the trainers don’t make it to me. Win or lose, Black Jack will want to talk to you,” the lone female trainer points to another man behind her. That must be their leader. This ‘Black Jack’ is watching you from the other side of the bridge.

“Win or lose? I’m not going to loooo-” you’re sentence is broken as your foot trips over a loose board on the bridge. You fall to the ground barely catching yourself. The trainers all start laughing at you. Worst time to fall ever.

While laughing openly, the female trainer throws out her Mankey and watches you rise to your feet. You open your bag to grab Runt’s ball. That’s when you realize in the fall your balls have jumbled. Your injured pokemon were luckily in another pocket. But that still leaves a 50/50 chance of you grabbing either Runt or Combee. You don’t think the lady will let you release both to see which is which. You were so close to sweeping the Nugget Bridge Challenge. And now thanks to your fall, it’s likely a coin toss between victory and losing.

You grab one of the balls. Here goes nothing. You throw out your pokemon to challenge the lady’s Mankey. The pokeball opens, flashing red as your partner is released onto the bridge. You hold your breath as you wait to see which pokemon will be part of the fight.

Who will fight? Runt? Or Combee?
