A day of training and a challenger.

Jack starts battling a couple Jigglypuff shortly after starting. You find yourself fighting against an Ekans. You let Tingle get some more battle experience, and after a drawn out battle you throw a ball to catch the wild Ekans. “Nice catch, A,” Jack calls from her own battle where her Cubone is battling the Jigglypuff. “So A, what is your goal out here being a trainer. Don’t you know it’s dangerous for a beautiful woman like you to be a trainer?”

“It’s only dangerous if I lose. Luckily I’m a great trainer. But I want to be part of the Elite 4 and eventually Champ so that I can make a real change to how female trainers are treated,” you answer staring deeply into Jack’s eyes.

“Ah the real noble approach. Well I’ll support your cause when it gets there. I’m going to be a gym leader. I’m a fire specialist. I’ll have to get Blaine to retire first, I don’t think Kanto has enough room for 2 fire gyms.”

“A fire specialist? But what about your Cubone? Kind of an odd choice using a ground type.”

“Oh I traded with a friend from the Alola region. My Cubone will evolve into a fire ghost type Marowak.”

As the day goes on, you develop a relationship with your new pokemon. You have fun hanging out with Jack in between the battles. When the time starts getting closer to game time, the two of you head back towards Pewter City wanting to wash off the sweat from the day before attending the game.

“Hello ladies,” a guy calls out stopping you and Jack before reentering Pewter City. “So what do you say about a little double battle?” He is tall and fit, with short black hair. He looks to be in his late 20’s. His age gives you pause because it could mean he is more experienced as a trainer. But if he is this old and still trying to beat Brock then it could be an easy battle.

You and Jack exchange a look, you both know that you can’t deny the battle. “2v1 or we do 2 separate single battles,” Jack starts negotiating with the guy.

“I don’t have time for 2 battles, so 2v1 it is. 1 pokemon each, for time sake,” he says accepting Jack’s deal.

Playing it safe you decide to use Wartortle for the battle and Jack sends out her Ponyta. The guy smirks at the pair of you before calling out his Metagross. Your worst fears are realized, the man fighting you and Jack is an experienced trainer. Jack plants her hands on your shoulders, “A, we got this. Never give up.” She turns away from you ready for the battle.
