Chapter 14 by WeLikeCheese WeLikeCheese

Is the place clear?

Everything is clear, for now...

The seven of you divide into groups of two and start sweeping the cabins, being sure to stay close to each other by having each group search an adjacent cabin to another group. Amanda teams up with her sister, while Jake and Kristen pair off and Mick partners with you. Warren, the odd man out, ends up tagging along with Amanda and Megan.

As you search through the cabins for any signs of trouble, you're pleasantly surprised to note that, despite the rustic exterior, the insides are reassuringly current, with electric air conditioning and modern plumbing. The complex is pretty big, including several barrack cabins, a dining hall, a recreational building with an impressive big screen TV and even some old arcade and pinball machines, what looks like an administration building, and a number of other cabins, including a hot springs complex and a sauna building (it seems Derek was right about the place being renovated into some sort of resort and spa). The place seems like it'd be a decent hideout to wait out the sex demon apocalypse.

As the camp complex is actually quite sprawling, so it takes all of you a while to thoroughly search it, but eventually it seems you've all covered every building and made sure the place is safe. Everybody meets back up at the center of the camp along with Derek and Maya, who were successful in getting the power started.

"Well, there's running water around the camp and plenty of canned food and preserves in the main pantry. Looks like our luck's pretty good for a change," Amanda reports.

"Wait a minute," Megan chimes in nervously, "we heard on the radio on the way here that some of these things can... can sort of shapeshift or cast some kind of illusion or whatever to look like they're still human. Can we really be sure that none of us is... well, you know."

A worried murmur spreads throughout the group as they consider her words. Thinking for a minute, you come to a realization. "Hey, no problem. We've got a silver sword in the car. Shapeshifting or illusion, I imagine these things still can't touch silver no matter how human they look. All we have to do is touch the blade to show that we're not one of them."

"Good idea!" Amanda exclaims with relief. "So, where's the sword?"

"I left it in the car. C'mon, follow me."

The nine of you make your way to your car. When you get there, you're shocked to find your silver sword is gone.

"Well, where is it?" Derek asks.

"It was right here!" you exclaim in surprise.

"Hey, the big metal cross I brought is gone too! I left it in the back seat when we got here!" Amanda yells out.

With a gasp, Megan runs over to her friends' blue compact car and throws open the glove compartment. "My silver gun's gone too! I put it in the glove compartment on the drive over here!"

"So what does that mean?" Warren asks out loud to no one in particular.

"Wait, does that mean that one of us is..." Maya begins to ask, horrified.

"I don't know," Amanda says, uncertainly. "Maybe, maybe there's someone else here at the camp that we didn't find? Maybe hiding in the woods?"

"Yeah, I mean, maybe they're not even one of them. Maybe they just don't like strangers running around with guns and swords. And... really like to collect crucifixes, i guess?" Mick chimes in.

Your mind is racing. Could one of the others be a demon in disguise? Certainly, they can't all be demons... not even the majority of them, or else they'd just reveal themselves and attack. Did someone sneak away and dispose of the silver and crucifix while the rest of you were searching the cabins? You think hard; Mick was with you the whole time, he's the only one you know for certain that couldn't have done it... unless he somehow managed to sneak away from you while you were distracted searching under beds or admiring the plumbing? And what about Amanda and Megan? You're almost certain that, back at the mall, the two of them were never out of your sight long enough to be turned... and Amanda was holding the crucifix without any trouble when she got into the car, right? You try hard to remember, but simply weren't paying attention at the time. Maybe Amanda is right, and whoever took the weapons isn't even someone in your group, but rather someone here at the camp that's managed to elude you all.

There are so many uncertainties, and here you are in the middle of nowhere, with possibly at least one horny sex demon in your midst in disguise.

What do you do now?
