Ring of Truth / Lies

Ring of Truth / Lies

Facts to reality

Chapter 1 by Dogdog Dogdog

Truth and Lies; two abstract concepts that plague every sentient life form capable of any form of communication.

In response, two rings came into existence.

The Ring of Truth. A simple band of 100% pure gold studded with a single flawless amethyst. As long as they have a soul, whoever wears it will have their spoken and written words become the truth. Only the one wearing the ring will remember the old reality. Everyone and everything else will accept it as the truth.

Suppose they were to say or write. "Eating greasy bacon is good for your heart." Those words shall then become reality. The truth will take the path of least resistance with its outcome unless the speaker specifies what is to happen. Undoing the spoken truth is hard, but if the change is made through written language, then simply erasing the truth while wearing the ring will return reality to its previous state.

The Ring of Lies. An ill-fitting band made of fool's gold and various other worthless material painted gold studded with 36 glass gems that look like diamonds. If any being, even the soul-less, speak or write with the ring on, their communication will be false. Even if what they are communicating is already false, the ring will make it more false.

If they were to say, "The sky is blue on a clear day." The sky would turn orange, and everyone would be aware it had changed except the one who made the change. If they were to say the lie, "I'm very wealthy and have a great big dick." They would become poor but maybe not in the material sense and would either have an undersized dick or no dick at all.

Removing the Ring of Lies is strange; the wearer cannot remove it on their own someone else must take it from them.

The rings are naturally in conflict with each other since they are equal yet opposite powers, each ring granting their wearer protection from the direct effects of the other.

What is unknown about the rings is what would happen if a being wore both at the same time.

Who is fortunate/unfortunate enough to find the ring(s)?
