Explore the tear

Stepping back around to the "front" of the tear, Alex leaned closer to it and noticed that much like everything he had seen today, it seemed much more real than the hallway around it. It almost seemed like the world around him was the product of some warped 6-year-old's imagination. Everything is there but for some reason it is all fake and cheap-looking. Even his clothes seemed to be out of place here. When he looked through the tear, however, he noticed that everyone seemed to look far more real. They looked different somehow but still far closer to what things should look like. He reached a hand toward the tear carefully. He was fully aware that it could be dangerous, but at the moment it was the only thing that even came close to solving his problem of no other people being around. As his hand passed through the tear, he noticed that for a split second people seemed to stop and stare at it.

He had no idea what they were actually seeing, but he imagined they were probably a bit surprised by a floating disembodied hand in the middle of the hallway. Of course, as far as he knew, they could be seeing him standing on the other side of the tear with his hand coming through. Oddly, the hallway on the other side of the tear was much better lit than on his side. That's not to say that his side was poorly lit. The other side was just better lit. It almost seemed like the other side was trying to invite him over by looking more inviting than the world he currently found himself in. He was not certain he wanted to go as far as to actually step through the tear. He didn't really want to step through this strange disembodied hole in the fabric of reality. What he was seeing could have been some sort of trap. On the other hand, he could always come back later and step through it. He couldn't quite decide if he want to step through or not.

If he did step through, did he do it now or wait until he had a chance to explore the school? He was so confused right now.
