Becoming a superhero?

That's right. Mackenzie Fairbairn, the young redhead protagonist of this tale, is getting superpowers! They may be extremely useful or nearly imperceptibly advantageous. However, one thing is certain:

No matter what powers she has, no matter how hard she tries, she will ALWAYS be unable to save the one thing most dear to her...

So, what kind of powers does she get? Flight, speed, strength, invulnerability, regeneration, time manipulation, teleportation, telepathy, telekinesis? Something more abstract like influencing emotions, manipulating luck, or altering perceptions? Perhaps something completely strange like being able to talk to animals, control clothing, or having every one of her wishes granted?

Perhaps a combination?
