Chapter 6 by saturdaynight saturdaynight

What does Lauren wish for?

"I wish I had a better roommate."

"I wish I had a better roommate."

The world blurred for a moment. Lauren felt a momentary, instinctual panic. When everything returned to focus, he was still in the Rollicking Rooster in the same room, but things had changed. Jasper's pack was no longer in the corner where he left it. A new pack was placed there, in a much more orderly fashion. Lauren slowly crept his eyes across the room, savoring the dramatic tension as any bard would. That tension broke when he reached the other bed. The one Jasper had just been in, playing with his dagger. Now, a new person lay there. She had changed out of her armor and was reading from her prayer book.

"Isabelle!?"

Isabelle looked up from her book. Lauren looked shocked for some reason. She was always on the lookout for curses that they missed in the dungeon. One dormant curse could activate at a bad time and cause **** to the whole group. It was Isabelle's responsibility to watch out for that. So she got up, grabbed her holy symbol, and verbally probed Lauren, "Are you feeling alright, Lauren?"

Lauren was not feeling alright, "How did you get here? Where's Jasper? What's going on?"

Oh no, Isabelle thought to herself, it's a curse of confusion. It wasn't the worst curse to deal with, but it was annoyingly hard to remove. The curse mixed itself in the victims existing tendencies to get confused making it hard to root out without causing damage to the victim. Isabelle tried to be calming, "Lauren. I walked in here with you. Jasper is in his own room with Vorka." They had initially tried rooming the two men together, but both hated the other too much and it didn't work out. Ilya and Temerity were the most modest about that kind of thing, so Isabelle and Vorka roomed with Lauren and Jasper. It cost more to have three rooms instead of two, but it saved on healing Lauren when Jasper stabbed him in annoyance.

Lauren's mind raced. How had this happened. What had happened? He then reached a conclusion. I wished for this. Could that really be it? He focused on what Isabelle was saying.

"It shouldn't take more than a night to remove, but these curses often don't go how you expect."

"Isabelle, I don't think I am cursed. I think... I think that I can wish things into reality."

Isabelle looked skeptical. Obviously. She put her hands on her hips, "I need your cooperation here. So wish for something, see that it does not happen, then I can get to work on your curse, ok?"

Lauren tried to think of a good wish. He looked around the room. What would convince Isabelle?

New Wish?
