Chapter 12 by Phantompen Phantompen

Does Mackenzie spot the drone? Or does something else happen?

The drone finds her.

As Mackenzie continued to catch her breath, staying bent over, she was startled by a faint clicking sound from behind her. Whirling around in a panic, the redhead found herself staring at the drone piloted by her "fan" once again. She quickly realized that the clicking she'd heard must have been some kind of camera function, and the realization of the kind of view it must have had from behind her as she bent over sent a deep red blush to her cheeks. Scowling at the drone, Mackenzie stared it down as she waited for any sign of guidance from the device.

The drone hovered up to reveal another note. Snatching it, Mackenzie looked it over.

I was afraid I almost lost you. You should be grateful I doubled back to find you instead of assuming you flaked on your forfeit. You wouldn't like what would happen if you did that. Now, assuming you're ready to really follow this time, let's get going.

Mackenzie crumpled up the note and tossed it aside, though she gave the drone an affirmative nod. With that, the drone zipped away, though this time Mackenzie was quick to start following. Thankfully, the drone stayed near the road, allowing Mackenzie to stay hidden in the cover provided by the road island. Of course, all good things must come to an end, and Mackenzie felt her heart begin to race as the drone came to a stop over another note, apparently having been dropped off earlier.

Now that you're here, it's time for you to make your choice. The road island ends in a few more meters, and then you need to cross the road. Cross the road to your left, and you'll see more houses. In the back yard of the green house is a pool. Cross the road to your right, and you'll enter a park. Not too far into the park is a river. You need to swim in one of these bodies of water for ten minutes for your forfeit to be complete. I won't tell you anything about the occupants of the house, but I will let you know that the river's current is quite strong. I hope you're a strong swimmer if you choose that. Either way: choose.

Mackenzie knew that either option was going to be awful. The person subjecting her to this madness clearly relished making her squirm, so there was no assuming one option was safer than the other. Besides, a swim did kind of sound pretty nice right about now, Mackenzie thought. She'd been feeling this odd warmth creeping across her entire body for a little bit now, though she couldn't figure out why that could be the case...

What does Mackenzie choose?
