What's happening?

The Spring Fair

Being out in the boonies has its upsides and downsides. While there isn't much to do assuming you're an extrovert who likes to head out shopping or clubbing, there's lots of space for things like skateboarding, rollerblading, and cycling. Luckily, your town is at juuust the right geographical location that April is quite mild, almost warm. Thus, every year, in collaboration with the local senior high school, the town holds a Spring Fair out at the county fairgrounds, just beyond the farms and near the forest at the foot of the mountain range. One student from the senior class that year, provided they are eighteen by that point, is selected as the master of ceremonies to emcee the event. You aren't sure how the emcee is selected, but you're pretty sure it has to do with volunteers and staff decisions rather than academics or popularity. The ones who've been selected the past several years certainly aren't anyone you know well or you'd have heard how!

You're one of those odd types of guys who, while not effeminate, just wind up having female friends because they see you as "safe." It was the tomboyish Christina who drove you out to the Spring Fair along with the fun-loving Amy, both of whom you now find yourself walking the county fairgrounds with. Stalls and minor carnival rides are all decked out in pastel shades of yellow, pink, white, and light blue. Eggs, chickens, rabbits... Funny how this holiday was supposed to be about Jesus. Then again, most of the traditions are tied to Pagan roots so you could see the de-Christianization of Easter as more of a return to its origins than any kind of cultural perversion. Wow, your thoughts go weird places.

Anyway, as "safe" as girls see you, you weren't always the harmless guy. There was a time, a dark time, that you were far less... inoffensive. No, not your phase in middle school where you ran around in public in your briefs and a cape, claiming to be a superhero. Not that far back! It was only a year ago that you were hanging with a far less innocuous crowd...

Rebecca was the most overtly flirtatious of the cheerleading squad, while Dana was just a bully, plain and simple. While not cruel on her own, Rebecca could be catty, and if Dana and her found a target they both could feed into each other's dislike of, it could be disastrous. Unfortunately, when you hit sophomore year of high school and left that silly gang you were in, you fell into their orbit due to a lack of options with your delinquent reputation hanging over your head. Most of it wasn't anything too bad for high school, but there was one student in particular who Rebecca and Dana had an above-average dislike of...

Short, a bit on the thick side, and with self-cropped hair, Zoe typically kept to herself. Humming, doodling in her notebook, and dressing in lazy hoodies and skirts with odd colorful accessories like rainbow bracelets. She was generally seen as the school's "weird girl." That alone wasn't enough to make her a target, but Rebecca and Dana seemed to have it out for her. You still don't know what they have against her, but you might have joined in a bit due to peer pressure... It was only a year ago that you just kind of fell out of Rebecca and Dana's orbit thanks to a different class schedule in your senior year, and instead gravitated toward Chris and Amy. You have to say, you're happier now, but you still can't help but notice Zoe avert her gaze when you pass her in the hallways...

"Hey, did you hear who the master of ceremonies was gonna be this year?" Amy asks. It's pleasantly warm and sunny out, and Amy dressed for the weather: A mini skirt that shows off her midriff and a v-neck T-shirt that shows a hint of some pretty impressive cleavage. She's short and widely-set but isn't afraid to show off her bust and ass for the right occasion. She could be quite the tease when she started getting drunk on the atmosphere and her wild side came out, in fact.

"Uh, I think I heard it was Candy or somethin'?" Chris's answer is non-committal. Whoever from your school is hosting the Spring fair isn't her concern. You have to admit, Amy and Chris don't seem like the two to be friends, considering one is a girly shortstack and the other a thin, fit, dirty blonde tomboy. You're actually pretty sure it was you who inadvertently drew them together and they both bonded over a mutual friend and mutual love of wild fun. Chris doesn't have much up top, as evident through her basketball tank and visible sports bra, but those sweatpants show that what she lacks up top she more than makes up for with a glorious bubble ass toned from Wii Fit, Dance Dance Revolution, and sandlot baseball.

"Wanna head to the opening ceremony and see?" you offer.

"Sounds like a plan, Sam!" Chris says, grinning.

The fair is absolutely packed, with people from the entire county having come to enjoy the festivities. While not imposing, you're not a short guy, so you manage to lead your friends through the crowds to where the stage for the fair's live performances is. The opening show hasn't started, but you can see some people from the A/V and music clubs setting up equipment. There's even speakers so the master of ceremonies this year can be heard throughout the fairgrounds. It always struck you as odd how much your high school is involved with running the Spring Fair when it's a county-wide event... Shouldn't the town hall or county government be doing all this?

You also notice Rebecca and Dana near by, but they don't pay you any mind. You're old news to them.

Who's the emcee?
