Chapter 7 by mask mask

What do you do next?

Opportunity strikes (but pull up your pants first)

You think now is your opportunity to jump to the next patch. But first you tuck away your junk and fasten the belt properly. Getting in the water is going to be unavoidable because it's too far to make it in one jump.

Unsheathing your sword and raising your shield you leap out into the shallow water.

Your bear foot meets the water with a splash, startling one of the straggling leeches near by. Hurrying, you take another big step, your toes sinking into the mud beneath. With some effort you pull your hind foot out, but not before the nearby leach latches onto your heel. You feel it's uncanny suction, but you can't afford the time to get it off right away. Taking another big step, with the leach flopping on it, but you ignore it.

Another nearby leach leaps out of the water towards your sword arm as you take your next step. Slashing your sword at it you slice it neatly in half. Another one takes a go at the same leg which already has thee one from before, wich is trying it's darnest to suck your entire foot into its mouth. You manage to block it with the edge of your shield and push it away as you take your final step and stumble onto the tiny patch of land.

On your knees you feel the uncanny ticklish sensation of the leeches tongue poking repeatedly between your toes. Turning around you stab it, poking a hole in the leach, it no longer has any suction **** and it goes limp and slips off of your foot and back into the water.

Having learned you lesson you decide to keep as much to land as possible. You realise now that even if the treasure had been in the water it would have been almost impossible to find it. Further more, now that you are without your boots, stepping on something sharp in the mud and cutting your feet could constitute a real health hazard in these putrid waters.

Luckily for you. The patches of interspersed land are much denser from here on out.

The question is do you take the time to strategise your route from island to island or do you hurry to advance to avoid the risk of being surrounded by Toothless leeches once more?

Plan or act?
