Chapter 19 by Zeebop Zeebop

Does Lois Bet Her Brain?

Lois Calls Blaze's Bluff

Lois Lane narrowed her eyes over her cards. Just level with the edge of the table, the tip of Blaze's erect cock was bobbing. A suspicion flared in the reporter's mind, and hardened into a certainty.

"You're bluffing," she told the demon.

Blaze raised an eyebrow. "If that's the case, you'll put your brain where your mouth is."

"No, I think we'll let this play out." Lois smiled. "Cards on the table."

Without a sight, the two players laid down their cards.

Lois: A♣ 6♣ K♣ 4♣ 9♦

Blaze: A♠ 6♥ K♥ 3♦ 4♥

The two stared at the cards.

"Close," Lois managed, thinking how near she had come to losing...almost everything.

"Very. If you don't want to bet your brain, would you care for...something a little more ambitious?" The demon was staring levelly at the pile of chips in the middle of the pile as Lois reached for it.

"And what would that be...?" The reporter paused.

"Leave the pot," Blaze told her. "I'll match it."

Lois took a deep breath. All of her holes were on the line...as well as the soul she had just won.

"How?"

Blaze held up two golden chips. Three souls total.

"A rich pot makes for a more interesting game, doesn't it?"

"Yes," Lois said after a moment. "It does. Deal the cards. And shuffle this time!"

Lois felt an itch, looking at the pile of chips. Blaze was playing her, and they both knew it: this was a way to shorten the game, one way or the other. The reporter was confident in her skills, but even so, this wasn't like playing for money. There were things she didn't want to lose.

The cards were dealt.

Lois: 3♣ 9♠ Q♠ 10♠ K♠

The reporter ruminated. The smart play would be to hold the Queen and King, hope for a pair. But...there was a good chance of getting a spade. Out of 42 remaining cards, not counting what Blaze had in her hand, there was eight spades...one of which was the Jack of Spades...and four jacks. A straight or flush would likely be a winning hand...but the odds were against her. Little better than one in four, by her quick math.

Lois stared across at Blaze. There was one way to check the waters.

"Check," she said.

Blaze stared levelly across the pile of chips in the pot. "Check works for me."

Hoarding her remaining chips. Lois noted. She can't be that confident in her hand.

So the question was: draw one or draw three?
