Chapter 10 by takacube takacube

What's next?

Neighbor Encounter (David)

David found himself pulling into the parking lot for a Walmart and after locking the door, adjusted the keys in his pocket and headed in. It was still a bit of a new experience to be walking into the store wearing jeans that had actual pockets and wearing a tight-fitted t-shirt that showed off his chest and arm muscles and not having to wonder if a man looking at him was leering or staring. The actual part, though, was the attention that he was getting from the women he was passing by, having noticed more than one smiling and appreciating the look of his body or his arms. He managed to look up as he passed the cart area and smiled at a woman who was caught looking a bit too long and she turned away, blushing.

David fished out the list of things he had written down and spent the next 10 minutes wandering the aisles, putting things in and marking it off. He was about to turn the aisle and head towards checkout when a woman, trying to avoid an old man who suddenly stopped to look at something, swerved and bumped into him, causing him to drop several things on the ground. "Shit!"

"Oh, I'm so sorry about that!"

David reached down and laughed a little as he picked up the small bags and items. "That's okay, accidents happen." He looked up at the woman who blinked for a moment at the man in front of her before a small smile appeared on her face. "You okay, though?"

"I'm fine, sorry, it seemed like you got more of it than I did." She looked at him again and David pretended not to really notice that she was eyeing him up and down while subtly checking things around them. She noticed the splatter of ketchup on his pants and shoes. "Oh, shoot, I did get you. Here, let me get something to clean that up for you."

David looked down and noticed the stains and then laughed it off. "That's okay, these are an old pair, no big deal."

She looked back at him. "At least let me pay to get it cleaned or something?"

"No, that's okay. I appreciate the offer."

The woman paused for a moment and then looked over her shoulder towards the entrance. "How about I get you a coffee then, to make up for it?" But before he could answer her, the phone in her hand rang and she looked down at it before rolling her eyes. "Next time I see you, let's meet for coffee, okay?"

"Sure!" David shrugged it off with a knowing smile as she turned and walked down the aisle. But as he was about to do the same in the opposite direction, she called out to him.

"What's your name?"

"David."

She smiled. "Mine's Ashlyn. It's nice to meet you, David!"
