A blind date

Anna stood up and looked around, wondering which of her boyfriends she was going out with. "Um, okay. I guess... we..." None of the guys moved when she said 'we', so she continued, "...will get ready."

"We?" said Corrine. "No, no, no, Anna. Tom set you up with one of his friends, remember?"

Anna's eyes became as wide as stop signs. "What?! I think I've got enough boyfriends already!"

Corrine stepped forward and took Anna's hands. "Look, I know I'm asking a lot. You can take Tom's friend or leave him. He's probably a total loser anyway, Tom didn't really want him to hit it off with you, he just wanted an excuse to get me to bring you along.

"It's like I said before, half the reason Tom started going out with me was so he could get close to you. But I really think he's started to actually like me, on our last date he only asked about you twice. If we can just have one night together where you make a big deal of showing absolutely no interest in him, I think he'll give up and focus on me."
