Chapter 9 by anonenffan anonenffan

Does Mackenzie heed the signs warning?

Partially.

The bow of the ship was right there, and that grand view of the ocean was in sight. Mackenzie kept her hands on the safety rails as the sign had warned, and approached the edge of the ship, taking in the scenery.

What Mackenzie saw was picture worthy. As far as the eye could see, was the ocean. The sun shined over it brilliantly, making it's blueish green color really light up, being a calming sight. From high up, the waves in the water seemed small, even though in truth, it was the ship that was small.

Mackenzie smiled, already planning in her head that she would come out every morning and look out at the water. That would would be a great way to start every day.

She was just about content with looking at the water, when the wind picked up again. This time, it roared much louder, causing Mackenzie's sundress to flutter around much more violently. The first sign of trouble that became apparent to the red head was the bottom of the dress fluttering in her face.

"Ahh!" Mackenzie was startled, talking a few steps back from the safety rail. She was disoriented by having her vision suddenly blocked, but she could also feel the wind whipping around her mostly exposed body. Was the top of her swimsuit revealed to everyone around her now? Mackenzie struggled to get the dress back down in it's correct position, and felt something touch her and fall to the ground.

"Agh! Come on... you stupid... whoa!" The wind gave a proud roar, forcing the dress to go further up Mackenzie's body. She was barely able to grip it as it fluttered aggressively in the wind. Now the dress was still in Mackenzie's grip, but covered none of her body. Her bright red swimsuit was still in tact, but it left her looking out of place at the bow of the ship.

"Hey Miss, I think you dropped your room key!" said a nearby person.

"What?" Mackenzie looked down and saw the plastic card sitting by her feet. It almost lifted in response to the wind. The red head's eyes widened, knowing she couldn't risk losing that! She let the dress go, and quickly reached down to snatch up the card. Mackenzie kept it firm in her grip and sighed with relief. She had never lost a room key before, and she didn't want to find out what happened if she did.

"Um... Miss... your dress is going overboard!" said that same person.

Mackenzie's eyes went wide, and her head snapped in the direction they were pointing. Now, beyond the safety rail, drifting in the breeze, Mackenzie's sun dress gently floated further and further from reach. All Mackenzie could do was watch, as it slowly fluttered down, and get claimed by the ocean.

What happens next?
