Chapter 9

Where to now?

Into the wilderness

The stress of the city is too much for me, especially when compounded with the weight of the world on my shoulders. I have to get out of the city, at least for a while. While mother would typically all but beg me to take an armed escort when leaving the Capitol, what she doesn't know won't hurt her. I head through the city gates, through the surrounding villages and farmlands, and into the dense woods that surround and protect the Capitol.

Such travel, while normally fine, can be a tad bit dangerous during trying times such as these, or alone and at night. Luckily, I'm a skilled swordsman, and know how to conceal myself when necessary. The fresh air and rustling leaves calm me greatly as I take in the natural sights and sounds of the evening air.

What do you encounter in the woods?
