Chapter 11

How goes the voyage?

Capsized!

After some relaxing and taking in the sights, I begin to zone out, then daze off as the day ends. I am awoken some time later by a wetness on my face, and the increasingly violent rocking of my small vessel. The distant storm clouds from earlier are now entirely filling the night sky, and lighting is seen crashing into the land nearby. I've got to get back to shore! This small boat won't survive such a storm.

Row as I might, the waves are getting higher and higher. The storms around these parts are rare, but they hit hard and fast when they come. I am taking on more and more water, and the bow of my boat is sitting closer and closer to the surface with the added weight. A large piece of driftwood slams into my boat, knocking a large hole in the side of the wooden craft, and sending me sailing. Swim as I might, I'm taking in more and more water, and finally succumb to darkness.

Surprisingly, I awake to the blinding sun, laying on my back, the sharp gravel of the rocky shore uncomfortable on my sore back. Apparently I was lucky enough to wash up on some small island on the large, unforgiving lake!

What do you see on the island?
