Chapter 9 by Rowenar Rowenar

Are they believed?

Yes

“It… would make sense of our readings,” Cisco said. “An overlaid reality, theoretically it’s…”

“Can you do anything about it?” Jesse squeaked, still behind the desk.

There was a moment of quiet, Cisco and Caitlin each frowning. Sara shifted in her chair, trying to turn it to expose less of herself.

She just prayed they’d say yes.

“With more data,” Cisco said slowly. “There might be a way to locally suppress the change. Especially if the speed **** can recall memories from before, though we’d need more data on what effect that has.”

“Give us a minute,” Caitlin said.

Sara and Jesse glanced at each other. Both flushed.

It was several long minutes before Cisco and Caitlin moved back from the desk. They’d devised what looked more like a heating pad than anything. Cisco moved over to the treadmill, somehow connecting it.

“So, uh, we need you to run,” Caitlin said to Jesse.

“What?” she squeaked. “Like- like this?”

“We’ll look away,” Caitlin said. “If we can get more readings on the effect this has on people, we might be able to do something. Using the speed **** is the only way we have to compare any kind of before and after, so if we want to model the transition…”

“Right,” Jesse said.

She sounded disappointed. After a moment though, she looked up, scarlet but determined.

“If it puts an end to this,” Jesse said. She hesitated. “How are you going to see the effect it has?”

“By measuring what happens to someone when they remember,” Caitlin said. She started reaching for the desk again, affixing multiple electrodes to her own head, and strapping something around her waist.

She didn’t seem remotely concerned.

“Are you sure…” Sara began.

“It can’t be that bad,” Caitlin said brightly.

Sara wasn’t sure what she wanted to say. On one hand, this Caitlin plainly had no concept of nudity-related embarrassment and so didn’t understand what she was putting herself in for; on the other, if it was the only way they had to help…

Either way, it happened. As soon as Cisco came back declaring the device was in place, Caitlin went over and took hold of the pad, multiple sensors ready to read every little change.

And then it was Jesse’s turn. With a deep breath, Jesse ran out, clearly hoping the lightning would conceal any trace of her body.

Not that it made her any less embarrassed. And it only worked partially; once she was on the treadmill she was a blur, yes, but a stationary one, features mostly resolving to remind everyone of just how much skin was on display.

Lightning surged, captured and redirected by the treadmill, until-

“Oh god!” Caitlin jumped, dropping the pad.

“Caitlin?” Cisco said urgently, nearing. She squeaked, squirming back.

“Oh god, oh god!” Panicked, she crossed one arm over her modest tits, drawing her legs up. She used her other arm to wave Cisco away, immediately flushing. Her pale skin really did go red so easily.

Jesse slowed for a moment, concerned. Then remembering her own state squeaked, and ran back behind a desk.

“Did it… work?” Cisco said.

“I think so,” Caitlin said, voice quiet. “Oh god. I’m naked. And I’m- no one look, please.”

Sara couldn’t resist sneaking a peek. Caitlin still sat there, flushed.

“We can’t- oh god, we can’t do this to anyone else,” she said. “I don’t even know how I’m going to get home. Cisco, how- how much data do we have.”

She wriggled, eyes wide, almost tearful. It was a stark change from her confidence and shamelessness moments before.

Cisco went over to the computers. He clicked a couple of times, and paused.

“It’s a… partial picture,” he said.

“How partial?” Caitlin said, high-pitched with nerves.

“Very partial,” Cisco said. “I think… we need a good few more people to get a full picture of what the change is like, if we even want a hope of counteracting it.”

More people to remind of just how it really felt to be naked. Sara flushed just sitting where she was, while Caitlin stared, panicked.

“You mean either we’re stuck like this,” she said slowly, “Or we need to subject others to it? Cisco, who would you suggest we…”

“Rogues, maybe?” Cisco said. “It… might be useful. If nothing else it’d make them less likely to run away, if they’re all like you.”

“Not funny Cisco!” Caitlin said, scarlet.

“I… don’t know how comfortable I am with that,” Jesse said.

“It’s them or friends,” Cisco said. “Who might volunteer, but still.”

What do they do?
