Chapter 5 by Rowenar Rowenar

Does she know where she is?

Yes: another city

Arms still desperately crossed over her chest, a panicked Caitlin looked from side to side. Grimy brickwork, and even the sidewalk looked off. Where on earth in Central City had Killer Frost dropped her off?

Nervously, Caitlin edged closer to the street. She couldn't just stay hiding forever, she needed to get home, and to do that she needed to know where she was.

A roadsign! Flushing furiously as a car drove by, she quickly turned so that any other drivers would only get to see her back. Ok, they'd still get too good an indication of her half-undressed state, but it was better than the alternative.

And the sign said...

Oh. No, that wasn't good. She knew where that street was; Star City. She wasn't even in the same city as her friends or her home, she was topless and penniless somewhere completely different.

Maybe she shouldn't have been surprised, Star City definitely had a better night life than Central so no wonder Killer Frost wanted to come here, but couldn't she at least give Caitlin a cab fare? Or better yet, not lose her top?

Another patron of the bar wolf whistled, and Caitlin jerked back to life. Right, she was running! Especially given that she'd dodged paying for drinks, she really didn't want to stick around.

Red-faced, Caitlin hurried down the street, under streetlight after streetlight that somehow seemed to enjoy pointing the embarassed scientist out.

What was she meant to do?! She didn't have the money for a public phone. Maybe she could ask to use someone's, but she shuddered to think of talking to a stranger in her current state.

More than anything she just wanted to curl up and hide, but if she did that she wouldn't get clothes, and she wouldn't get home. It wasn't like she could wait for a quieter time of day; Star City was renowned for almost never sleeping.

Her eyes widened, though, at the next vehicle to pass her. Instead of a driver honking their appreciation at her embarassment, it was a bus. And, Caitlin quickly rifled through her memory, it might well be a bus to Central City.

Well, she figured she deserved some luck. Caitlin swallowed, picking up her pace as she ran to the bus stop. As she reached it, the bus had stopped. She whimpered as people got off, walking past her.

Though at least there were less people left on the bus. Caitlin hesitated; it was still too many, and it was hardly a short journey. Definitely one she couldn't walk, but to be topless around them for so long...

Well what else was she meant to do?!

Squeaking, Caitlin stepped into the bus. The driver immediately turned to face her; she tried to hurry to the back of the vehicle before he stopped her.

"You got cash?" he said.

Caitlin squeaked. She turned back to him, nervous.

"I-I've had a really bad night ok?" she said. "Can I just go home-"

"No cash, no service," he said.

Caitlin whimpered, and stared pleadingly at the driver.

"You can't kick me out like this!" she said. "Please!"

He eyed her, enough to make her blush deepen further. And then he smiled, which didn't allay her embarassment at all.

"These late nights back and forth can be kind of dull," he said. "Tell you what. Instead of a fare, give me your jeans."

"What?!" Caitlin squeaked. Her eyes went wide.

"You heard," he said. "Jeans for service. And sit near the front. Liven up the journey a bit."

"You can't be serious!"

"You're the one that decided to run around the city with her tits out sweetie," the driver said. "Now, do you want to get to Central or not?"

Can Caitlin do it?
