Chapter 7 by earpsrhot earpsrhot

What does Emily wear to work? And more importantly, does it last?

Wonder Woman comes to work, driven and motivated

Emily was in the elevator, doing her best to stay upright.

It wasn’t her first choice of outfit, but she’d made it to work without being zapped by another supervillain, so she counted it as a win. Even if the alarmingly short skirt hadn’t made the bike ride any less awkward.

Most of her legs were bare beneath it, at least from her upper thigh down to just past her knee, where the boots took over. The heels took some getting used to. She awkwardly stumbled every few steps, and while she was in the elevator had to try and adjust them. Feeling taller wasn’t helping how exposed she felt either.

At least it wasn’t a bikini. The short skirt did cover more of her skin than panties, and it continued up to the strapless bustier, held up only by how tightly she’d fastened it around her midriff. That didn’t help how it was clearly meant for someone with a larger, ahem, bust than her meaning that if she squirmed too much, or leant forwards, rather a lot slipped into view.

Still, it was better than naked.

Even if an involuntary squeal escaped her lips once the elevator doors opened. Emily tripped over the heels as she walked into the office, making uneven progress towards her office, hastily grabbing the extended metal W that marked the top of her costume to keep it from slipping.

She made it halfway to her office before turning heel and stiffly heading to the R&D workspace. No way was she going to just give up after that.

Holding her head high and trying not to look around to see how much people were staring, she knocked on the glass door to the lab. Teddy and Ron turned to see her, and she flushed instantly.

“Wonder Woman?” Ron said.

“We need to do something!” Emily squeaked, hastily changing the topic.

“You have a Wonder Woman costume?” Ron said anyway.

“You’re at work! Let’s work!” Emily said. “We’re meant to sell people the things they need to live through supervillain attacks, this is the perfect time! What if we can make some kind of outfit that doesn’t get destroyed?”

Rather than adopting the more fitting hands-on-her-hips pose, she kept her arms crossed. Given she couldn’t wear a bra with this outfit, keeping it against her chest felt like a priority.

Combined with steadfast denial about how much of her legs were bare, it was working impressively well.

Then, while Ron and Teddy were musing over the pros and cons of a business opportunity that would keep women dressed, Jackie walked in.

“You’ve got a little burn-mark there,” Jackie said.

Emily frowned, glanced down to the short, short skirt part of her outfit, saw a slightly singed spot, and squeaked.

“Wait, how did you burn that?” Teddy said.

“Doesn’t matter!” Emily squealed. With how everyone was staring at her just because of the outfit (well, and the running nude through the office thing), she really didn’t need the image of her and Green Fury in their heads too. “What about my idea? Get to work!”

“We could,” Teddy said. “There’s just a small problem.”

“Which is?” Emily said.

She went back to crossing her arms, taking a few steps sideways so that the burn that revealed a little more of the skin up her thigh was hidden behind the desk, and straightened so that she looked as business-like as she could in a novelty superheroine fetish costume.

“Do you know what happens to a mannequin when you test a destroys-non-organic-materials ray on it?” Teddy said. “Here’s a hint: it’s not good. We do have a budget and disintegrating high-quality mannequins doesn’t do it any favors.”

“We got this a couple of years ago,” Ron said. He crouched under the desk and pulled out something that looked like a cross between a sixties sci-fi ray gun and a super soaker. “Confiscated from the Boob-eyeing Bandit, she used to use it to strip people and it has enough settings that it simulates most relevant powers. But any time we try to test it, it blows the mannequins to pieces too.”

Okay, they had a point. Otherwise. Most women would probably just be wearing suits of armor to work if material made a difference.

“So, what do you need?” Emily said. “You can’t just give up!”

It wasn’t in her nature to just leave a problem. Especially when said problem would apparently see her wearing next to nothing for several weeks each year.

“Well with how many powers affect organic matter specifically, and how some settings only trigger to destroy clothes on organic matter,” Teddy said, “We’d need a volunteer. You can see the problem.”

Emily squeaked.

“If you, er, had one,” Emily said slowly, “You’d be able to make something we could actually wear?”

“Oh, definitely,” Ron said.

“Eventually,” Teddy said. “Genius takes time.”

“But it’d be safe?” Emily said.

“Sure, all the rays are tested, we know they aren’t dangerous to humans,” Teddy said.

“So you just need a woman who’d volunteer to potentially be stripped until you get it right?” Emily said.

Jackie looked between them, and quickly walked out the room.

“Yeah, don’t look at me,” she said.

Meanwhile, Emily lingered on the spot, uncertain. She did want to help after all, that was the whole reason she’d picked this job. And she’d love to be able to change out of this.

Even if…

Well they had already seen her naked, she reluctantly admitted. She just wasn’t sure she wanted it to happen again. Even if it would be for the greater good.

“Why?” Teddy said. “You have a volunteer in mind?”

Does Emily make a decision? If so, how do the tests go?
