Chapter 3 by GreenishNightLight GreenishNightLight

What kind of race should she pick?

Something Strong

Furrowing her brow in concentration, Leanna comes to a decision: “I’ll be some sort of warrior. So what if it is basic? It’ll be nice feeling strong for once. Besides, if I do something magic based I’ll be way to tempted to min-max. I’d rather use this as a chance to relax and unwind, which will be hard to do if I am constantly calculating what is the most optimal.”

With that decided she dismisses the boxes about the attributes and returns to the list of races. To put it lightly, there are quite a few choices for her to take. But which ones would be good for a warrior character? Is there a way to sort by the bonus stats they get each level? It’d be nice to see which ones get the most free physical attributes.

Just as she thinks that, the list abruptly shortens itself down. “Alright, that’s better. Now what do we have here? Still some classics like Dwarves and Orcs, but most of them are a bit more... well, unique isn’t quite the word. Like really, what is with the Risafaedr? What even are those?”

“Ah, whatever... What to pick...” Leanna mutters as she puts a finger to her chin, deep in thought. “Well, being a Dwarf is out of the picture. I’d rather not be a womanlet. What about Orc?”

Once more, the mirror clouds over as her vision wavers, and once it clears Leanna sees herself as an Orc. Again, she is still recognizably herself, just now with mossy green skin, some more muscle on her, little tusks jutting out of her mouth, and a little bit shorter than she was as a High Elf.

Orcs, these strong and brutish Greenskins favour the plains and steppes of the world. Their tribal societies often lead them to conflict with the more civilized races. Receive 4 attribute points per level, along with +1 Might and +2 Toughness.

“Alright, that isn’t too bad. But only seven points per level? What do Dwarves get?”

Dwarves, these stout and sturdy peoples live beneath the mountains of the world in ancestral holds. Their isolationist culture makes them a rare sight on the surface. Receive 4 attribute points per level, along with +2 Endurance and +2 Toughness.

“Damn. Getting eight points per level is tempting, but they really are built for more of a tank role, and I’m not sure if I’m into that. Lets see those ‘Risafaedr’ next.”

Risafaedr, these large and resilient peoples, the descendants of giants, live in the cold hills of the north. Their tradition of raiding has caused most other races to view them negatively and often with open hostility. Receive 4 attribute points per level, along with +3 Might.

“Just plus three might? That doesn’t sound like much for what seem to be giants... It doesn’t give much information though, so maybe the resistances make it more worth it? Hmm... What about the ones that sound like beast races? Or whatever they are. I’d rather not be a furry, but I have to at least see the stats... So, how about I see... ‘Lup'ini’ and ‘Drakling’ first.”

Lup'ini, these fierce and brave Beastfolk favour the colder climates of the world. Their nomadic societies often lead them to conflict with the settled races over pastoral land. Receive 4 attribute points per level, along with +1 Endurance, +1 Toughness, and +1 Composure.

Draklings, these ferocious and savage Beastfolk live in the frozen wastes of the north. They have very little contact with the other races but are seen as a primitive and barbaric peoples. Receive 4 attribute points per level, along with +2 Might and +2 Toughness.

“Yup, right on the money with these being beast races. I'd bet that the Lup'ini are wolves, with the whole 'Lupine' sounding name and all... Hmm... They get a free mental attribute, which I guess is good for being brave? But being a Drakling, well, that seems quite nice. At least stat wise, as it sounds like there will be quite a bit of fantasy racism here... Or I’d be just locked into some kind of barbarian play style. Hard to tell if that vague flavour text really means much...”

Leanna brings a finger up to her chin once more. This is quite an important choice, so she doesn’t want to rush it. But on the other hand, she doesn’t really want to spend all day just creating her character. So, she is left thinking if she should just choose one of these races, or if she should look at some of the other ones that she hasn’t bothered to look at yet?

Choose one of these races? Or keep looking?
