Carter groaned.

"It's close enough," Neykov said. "We can afford to lose a spanner, that'll cover the difference."

"Do you want to tell the bigwigs that?" Allen said. "Especially if it goes wrong. Do you want to be the one to say Major Carter couldn't effect a vital repair because you thought it was 'close enough?' Or for her to run out of gas and get marooned in space because you wouldn't do your job?"

Carter closed her eyes. The bickering wasn't helping.

"It's fine," Carter lied, masking her expression. "It's not like I'm expecting much company up there."

"You're sure?" Neykov said.

Carter blushed and, rather than answer him, looked away so that she didn't have to meet his eyes. She pulled her bra off over her head, and crossed her arms over her chest, hiding her boobs from the crew. Reluctantly she looked down at the numbers.

Still not enough. Before she could talk herself out of it, she went to lose her last article of clothing. "There," Neykov said.

"Probably?!" Carter said.

Allen looked her up and down. It was probably more embarrassing that even with the Major naked in front of him, a sight that a number of her comrades had vocally expressed a desire to see, he seemed so much more analytical than involved.

"Move your hand," he said, looking at her crotch.

"Now wait a second," Carter said.

"And risk giving you a military-unapproved haircut?" he said. "Neykov, send someone out for some waxing strips. Launch is in an hour, should be done by then."

Carter reddened, but decided to say nothing. It was better to just get it over with, she reflected, if she could handle being tortured by Goa'uld then she could handle some impromptu grooming. Quickly she stepped off the scales, hurrying to a nearby office.

She sat around, once she was out of sight of the Theseus's room, waiting. When Allen came in with the waxing strips, she pointedly waited for him to leave before taking care of herself, gritting her teeth as she tugged the strips off her skin. That wasn't something she'd ever pictured herself doing in a CO's office.

Her next weigh-in was at just the right weight. Relieved, Carter sprinted past all the work-crew and gratefully locked herself inside the Theseus.

"Tell them to bring a spare uniform through the gate when they come to pick me up!" Carter shouted as the door shut.
