Richard's new family life

"Here we are!"

Richard looked out of the car as it came to a stop in front of a suburban home, two floors from the looks of it, and as he stepped out of the back and grabbed his bag, he noticed that there was a bit of a commotion from inside the house. Moments after he closed the door, the front door opened and out ran a middle-age woman who immediately latched onto him and gave him a warm hug. "Welcome home, sweetie!"

Feeling a bit confused, all he could do was give her a pat on the back before the older man, his new father, laughed and motioned for the woman to let him go, muttering something about letting the poor boy breathe. She just tsked him in response before she stepped back and looked at him from top to bottom. "I'm Hillary, your mom. Come on in, let's go inside."

As his dad came up from behind with the bags, Richard looked back at him and he just laughed. "She's all about kids. We'll talk later, okay?"

Richard nodded and followed him into the house and for the next hour, the three of them talked in the living room. Rather, she talked while Richard looked and tried his best to keep up with the conversation. Finally, his dad quickly just patted her on the shoulder and suggested that Richard go up to his room and settle in. They would call when dinner was ready and, with the mention of dinner, Hillary immediately jumped up and ran into the kitchen.

Richard just walked up the stairs and as he spotted his room, he noticed that there were two other bedrooms, both of which were closed. Making a mental note to check, he walked into his room and looked around. It was a nondescript room with a full-size bed, closet, dresser, desk, and some extra packets that were sent over by X-Change. It was a bare bones room and he suspected they had left it for him to decorate when he got there.

As he stepped in front of the mirror, he looked at himself and then smiled. "I'm home..."
