What happens next with Max?

Max pays her weekly "business tax".

Max was leaned against the wall sipping on her water when she heard the sound of a vehicle enter the alley. Looking up at it she saw a familiar dark blue SUV driving towards her. She knelt down and, Putting the bottle down, reached into her bag and pulled out a small envelope. Getting back up she walked over to the truck's drivers side door as it pulled to a stop, as she was approaching she saw the tinted window come down.

"Miss Guevara, how are we doing this evening?" she heard a feminine voice ask her.

"Not to bad." she answered the person, lieutenant Kayla Nash, the detective in charge of the city's police vice and street crime unit.

"Glad to hear it." she says as Max leans in the window looking the other woman in her dark blue eyes as she hands over the envelope. The blonde lieutenant was dressed in every day clothes of jeans and a t-shirt with a police bullet proof vest over them. Max knew that Kayla was in her late 30's.

"Thank you." Kayla says as she takes the envelope and puts it down on the passenger seat.

"How much?" she questions Max.

"Little over 23 hundred, if you want you can count it." Max tells her, it constitutes 10% of her last weeks earning and is the standard rate the officer charges the working girls, and guys, in the city. Max thought that it was surprisingly reasonable and guessed that Kayla would rather have a steady, relatively easy stream of money from the Hookers and call girls of the city than try and get a bigger share and have to work more at it. In return for the money the cops for the most part left the girls alone to do their business, concentrating on the local **** dealers, scam artist and other criminals. Max had no problems with that having an instinctive dislike of **** dealers, she knew from first hand experience the devastating effects the harder **** can have on people.

"No, that's okay I trust you, for a person who's technical a criminal, you're surprisingly honest." Kayla says looking at the young woman leaning on her window. "girl really is hot." She thought to herself. Part of the reason she earns what she earns she muses. She knew the other parts too, some seriously twisted stuff if her sources were accurate, and mused further that you would never know that the cheerful, confident girl was into that stuff if you just met her on the street. She knew how much Max could pull down a week, the amount of cash she said she was given was in line with a slightly above average week for the girl.

"You got those files I asked for?" Max asked her breaking her thoughts.

"Uhh, yeah....sure, here you go." she said getting them out of a back pack on the floor and handing them to Max.

"Cool, thanks" the girls says as she begins to flip thru them, they're Police records and background checks on potential clients of hers.

Ever since she showed up in town a year and a half ago Kayla has been mostly impressed with how Max goes about her business, she usually keeps a low profile, is cautions and doesn't take part in any off the other illegal activity that her fellow professionals are want to do ****, robbery, gambling to name a few. There are exceptions of course every three months or so the girl seems to go a little wild for some reason, again she does nothing that would cause her arrest, she would just do things like walk into a bar and get the whole place to gang-bang her, Until that friend of hers she lived with managed to track her down and drag her home. After that you usually wouldn't see her for about a week.

Glancing down the alley she saw the aftermath of the other exception.

"Jeez, Max could you at least try and hide that from me?" she ask, pointing at the **** man.

"Didn't have time, what you gonna arrest me for it?" Max challenges standing up crossing her arms over her breasts.

"I could." she responds in answer knowing that she wouldn't. She also knew of this occasional behavior of Max's, it was illegal and she could arrest Max for it but it generally happen so infrequently and under such specific circumstances that she usually looked the other way.

Until Max had decided to do it almost in front of her.

"Listen, Max I know you, I know you don't do that unless you think someone's wronged you." she tell the younger girl and sees a flash of annoyance cross her face. "I also know that you're a lot more careful than this usually. I know You know this isn't good business for you or me." she finishes.

Max continues to stand there a while somewhat agitated, before calming down.

"Sorry." she finally says "You're right, you're right." she concedes.
"I took a job while I was waiting for you and he decided he wasn't going to pay. That was just like five minute ago, looking back it was a dumb thing to do, but what can I do about it now?" Max continues, shrugging her shoulders.

"Well, you can make sure that you don't do it almost in front of me again." she tells max in response.

"Yeah, okay, I'll be more careful." Max affirms.

"Good, then," Kayla says letting the matter drop. "speaking of being careful." she says switching gears slightly.
"A few of the street girls have gone missing in the last couple of days, along with one of your fellow escorts." she says pulling out pictures and showing them to Max.

"I don't really know any of them." Max says as she leafs thru them "I mean sure I might have seen them on the street once and a while but I really didn't know them personally." Max said just before she got to the last photo.

"I take that back, I do know her." she says handing that photo back to Kayla.

"Julie Chau, Like you say in the same business, we both hang out at Jessie's sometimes." Max says indicating a bar downtown that she frequents.

"You two friends?" Kayla asked, writing it down in her notebook.

"Friendly." Max, Shrugging her shoulders as she continued looking at the photo, answered continuing "Like I said we hang out at the same bar, sometimes we'd make small talk but she has her friends and I have mine so we weren't really that close just knew each other." She pauses for a second before saying.

"Hadn't seen anything out of the ordinary last time I saw her, four days ago to answer your next questions." Max tells her handing her back the photo.

"Alright, thanks." Kayla says, taking back the photo." Girl is smart too." She thinks to herself and finishes her notes before turning her attention back to Max.

"Listen, we're not sure what's going on, could be coincidence but probably isn't, so be careful until we know what is going on." she warns Max.

"I will, thanks. I appreciate the heads up." Max tells her honestly smiling at her.

"No problem, well I should probably get out of here. Later, Max." Kayla says and rolling up her window drives out of the other end of the alley.

Thinking about what the detective just told her Max got on her bike and headed out towards home.

What happens on Max's way home?
