Chapter 8 by Stalagg Stalagg

Let it go?

Live by the Sack, die by the Sack

Life was temporary but Gold was forever you decided. One year or a thousand didn't compare if it was without the sweet twinkle of Gold. Throwing away your life in exchange for your riches was worth it in your mind. After all if you perished you'd respawn with a restored Sack. You've never lived beyond your Sack's lifetime so you don't know if it would come back with you if you died. A Treasure Goblin without his Sack was what exactly? Just some gangly creature that had no resemblance to Goblins or Goblinoids in the slightest. With the thrashing Dwarf on your back you took a deep breath through your slit nose and exhaled, releasing your grasp on the platform and sending both you and Faldin falling to the chamber below.

You felt the cold wind rush past your face as the cloud of bats were pushed back from your fall. You felt the weight and texture of the coins just beneath your Sack's surface, even now jingling in the air and providing you with such comfort. You were okay with this. You lived with your riches and now you died with them as well. Closing your eyes you leaned back against your Sack. You embraced the arms of ****.

CRASH

DING!!

Your eyes snapped open as you felt your Sack hit the chamber's floor with a resounding smash which sent the Cave Bats above you scattering from the sudden **** on their ears. Despite the noise you managed to hear a tall tell sound of leveling up. That didn't make sense as the Dwarf who attacked you shouldn't have done anything that would warrant getting experience. With a grunt you pulled yourself off of your Sack and lifted it onto your back, surprised you hadn't been maimed by the crazed Faldin yet. Turning around your flinched from the sight of his partially flattened corpse. Crushed to **** by a Treasure Goblin's Sack, that was a brutal way to go. So just through deduction the only one who could have leveled up was...you. That...was new. You didn't even know Treasure Goblins could level up. Curiously you opened your stats and were greeted with tiny fanfare celebrating your increase in power, as well as a wave of power which filled your body seemingly to the brim and beyond.

LEVEL UP!

Treasure Goblin
Level: 1 - 7
Health: 100 - 350
Melee Attack: 0 - 20
Ranged Attack: 0 - 10
Weaknesses: Frost and Traps
Special Abilities:
Thorough Looter: Can interact with items in the world. Can loot any corpse. Hero corpses are persistent until looted fully.
Treasure Goblin Sack: Whenever you take damage a random amount of treasure is dropped from your sack.
Item Snatcher: Every basic attack steals a targeted enemy's equipped item, weapon, or armor piece.
Hand-Me-Downs: Can equip weapons and armor. Non Treasure Goblin items possess reduced stats.

Item Snatcher was the most catching of your new additions and you didn't even know there were Treasure Goblin items. Before you could ponder the nature of your abilities you suddenly felt your body being lifted off of the ground as you were overcome with six new levels of power. Your muscles bulged beneath the skin of your arms, legs, and shoulders, strengthening and increasing in size. Your back spread out even further, giving you an increased hunch and even more space to carry your Sack. You sprouted a full foot in height, your body becoming more filled out and muscular from leveling up. Once the high died down from your leveling up you examined your form curiously. You looked at your new empowered arm and you squeezed your hands together and were reward with the sound of your knuckles popping into place. You did the same with your other arm and you stood as tall as you could, relishing in your new found strength.

"This is incredible! I've never felt so good in my life!"

You spoke with a cackling laugh, covering your mouth in surprise as a deeper sounding voice could be heard before your usually laughter sprang out. Choosing instead to smile widely you turned your attention to the corpse of Faldin and you giggled slightly. He looked so...valuable just laying there like that. His armor was so elaborate and fine, he surely must have been a high leveled hero for you to have gained as much power as you did. High leveled meant he traveled to dangerous zones. Dangerous zones had powerful mobs. Powerful mobs dropped valuable loot. Valuable loot could be sold for Gold. Therefore, Faldin was rich!

You were on him faster than Nuns were on Jesus Christ, tearing at his inventory like a madman. You had looted one or two hero corpses before but they were nothing like this. Not so filled with valuable vendor trash, crafting ingredients, spell scrolls, and Gold. So much Gold. There must have been two thousand pieces on his person alone you happily found, more than happy enough to add it to your Sack. The jingle of new coins, nothing was ever so satisfying. You then stripped him of his armor, taking the grand pieces of the Paladin's suit and equipping it yourself. As the armor touched your skin it formed around you, contorting and seeming to **** in quality. The braces stretched along your slender arms, shin-guards doing so as well. You kept your chest, hands and feet bare for mobility's sake, your speed no doubt increased as well and you didn't want to weigh yourself down with needless armor. Lastly you lifted Faldin's hammer up curiously, it seeming lighter than it should have. You decided to add that to your Sack for safe keeping, never knowing when it might come in handy. Now devoid of everything Faldin's corpse was allowed to fade away. He would be in for a nasty surprise when he came to and all his items were gone.

"Faldin! Are you down there!?"

You heard the Half-Orcess shout. Looking up you smiled deviously and hurried towards a nearby tunnel. One down, two to go.

Who is your next focus?
