Chapter 3 by Roseidurian Roseidurian

What's next?

Green Arrow and the Naked Canary

"This is where you've been living?" Laurel said.

Dinah had stumbled over the lyrics of her song the moment she saw the other Canary again. Still, at least it was better seeing her today compared to... some other days. Ignoring the blush in her cheeks, Dinah answered.

In a new world that she apparently didn't exist in, ending up in a place like this where she could actually make a living, not needing to go back into the pain of heroics... It had been an easier decision than she wanted to admit.

Things went as well as could be expected after that. More business with Laurel, then Mia, then falling back into the old Canary role, which was a thrill. Things never could go quite back to normal after that.

"We could turn this place into a base of operations," Laurel said, after everything.

They were in Dinah's apartment over the bar, the glass clock-window letting light into the room. Dinah almost choked on the air.

"Over the bar?" Dinah said.

"Yeah, what's wrong with that?" Laurel said. "Want to keep your pipes a secret?"

Dinah blushed slightly. She wasn't sure she wanted to answer that.

As it was, the truth outed after just a couple more days. Laurel came by for a visit, and rather than going directly to her apartment, stopped by the bar first. Then froze once she saw the stage. She'd heard Dinah singing as soon as she went in, and heard the piano, so she'd assumed it was the same as before. A gentle melody, fitting the otherwise fairly upscale establishment. Then she saw Dinah.

Dinah was sat on the same stool, playing the same piano, crooning a similar enough song. She was just doing it without a stitch on. Her ass was bare on the stool, and all she had to cover her boobs was the angle her arm was at, trying to at least be between the audience and her nipple while she played, though of course her hand had to keep moving up and down the piano.

Dinah sang almost like nothing was wrong. Laurel was good enough at reading people, though, to see the slight blush in her cheeks and see how fixated she was on the piano in front of her. She hadn't even noticed Laurel in the audience yet.

After a few minutes, Dinah breathed out, finishing the song. Then she almost fell off her stool as she glanced sideways, freezing for a second before she remembered to cross her arms over her heaving boobs and hurrying from the stage.

Laurel blinked a few times. Then, after a few minutes, went to follow her.

Dinah was in her apartment, now in a loose robe pulled tight around her body, curly hair falling down over the navy.

"Er, care to explain?" Laurel said.

Dinah blushed, and mumbled something.

"What?" Laurel said.

"I said Naked Fridays!" Dinah squeaked. "Look, you try getting a job when no one knows you exist. Clubs with... stuff like that tend not to look too hard at your background."

Laurel stared. Dinah blushed deeper, pulling her robe tighter around herself. There was a reason she didn't want all her friends coming to her apartment so close to her work.

"Problem?" Dinah said, voice high.

"Just... I think I know why Sara mentioned this place," Laurel said.

"Yeah, well... If that's all, I've got to go back on in five. And, er, don't tell Mia. Or anyone. Please."
