Chapter 9 by Blackskull Blackskull

Deeper and down

Ava wriggled further, aware she was losing her hiding place, but trying desperately to reach the clothes with her foot. At least she had one advantage, that her powers made her movements silent. Shifting still further out from under the bed, Ava's toes finally brushed the edge of the shirt, but the shirt did not react as she phased straight through.

Ava **** herself to calm down, concentrate on making her foot solid, gripping the clothing so she could pull it back to her.

"Hey, who are you?" the blonde woman, damp and wrapped in a towel, stood over Ava, looking down at her.

"Er... There's a very good explanation for this." Ava began. She saw from the corner of her eye the brunette woman sit up and reach for a radio. "Wait, just..."

Then both women, and the entire room, were gone and replaced by a blank grey ceiling, which was receding from view. Ava had phased through the floor, and she realised this just in time to catch herself and land on the next floor down.

As she looked up from her prone position, breathing hard, half a dozen uniformed guards stood over her. She had landed right in the middle of them.

"Hi, boys." Ava smiled nervously. Then, as the guards began to bring guns to bear on her, she leapt to her feet and took off running, straight through one guard and out the other side.

"That felt so weird!" she heard him exclaim behind her, "But kinda nice!"

Ava ran through a door and into the next corridor, but knowing the guarda would be right on her tail she stepped through the nearest wall.

The new room was dark, it took a while for her eyes to adjust and then there was nothing much to be seen, some glass-fronted alcoves which might have been cells.

"Who are you?" came a voice from one of them.
