Chapter 7 by VagueJester VagueJester

Do your traps work?

Better than expected

The door opens and you are nearly petrified as the lightly-glowing form of a priestess steps through. She peers into the room, and you can hear a voice you recognize as the barbarian you claimed as your first kill groaning.

"Ugh! Would you hurry up?" He demands, and the priestess scowls and rolls her eyes.

"I'm checking for traps," she hisses, raising her staff.

"We've already been here before," another male voice says. "There aren't any. Just hurry up and get in there."

The priestess yelps as she's pushed forward and stumbles right into your tripwire, falling to the ground and revealing the second male to be a mage dressed in blue robes while behind him stand the barbarian from earlier, and a ranger. Unfortunately for the mage, his rough handling of the priestess has caused him to be standing in the way of your log trap, which swings down from the ceiling and slams into his chest, killing him immediately. You feel a rush of XP and grin as you watch the barbarian roughly pick the priestess off the ground.

"Great!" She exclaims. "This is what you get for being an asshole! Now we don't have a mage."

"Shut up, Madi," the barbarian growls as she shrugs off his grip and crosses her arms. "We already beat the boss once before, we'll do it again."

Without a word, you use your Shadow Dash to plow into the priestess, smashing her head into the wall and knocking her ****, before turning to the other two. The barbarian hefts his axe while the ranger draws his bow, but you simply turn yourself incorporeal, causing their attacks to pass harmlessly through you while hit them with a barrage of Dark Pulses, making sure to time your attacks appropriately so that you don't run out of Mana. It doesn't take long for the two of them to turn tail and try to flee, but as soon as they do, you Shadow Dash towards them, and blast them away thanks to the damage bonus applied to back attacks. The two of them disappear and you feel another surge of energy before hearing a groan from the other side of the room, and turn to see the priestess waking up.

You pause for a moment, considering what to do. You could kill her, and get some more, much needed, XP. Or you could keep her alive, and maybe start working on that vague plan you have to take down Anari.

Which do you choose?
