Chapter 7 by SergeantPepper SergeantPepper

What's next?

An evil speedster. How original.

"So. Short version. Pissed of speedster," Sara said.

"Another one?" Cisco said. He sighed. "Do you know how hard it is to keep coming up with names for them? There's only so many ways you can riff off 'gotta go fast.'"

"He'll save you the trouble. Apparently he calls himself Speed Demon," Sara said. "From what I've heard about what's going down in Central City, you know the shtick. Wants to be the fastest one there is. This guy, however, got the bright idea to achieve that, not by training himself, but by meddling with the timeline."

"You mentioned something about history," Barry said. "Wait, does this has something to do with why my powers are gone?"

"Shit, that's happened already?" Sara said. She groaned. "Hoped to get there fast enough to stop that. Yeah. Our friendly neighborhood Speed Demon decided to run fast enough to go back in time and prevent the particle accelerator explosion from happening in the first place. No metas, no Flash, no Reverse Flash inspired by the Flash... In one fell swoop, doing away with the origin of all other speedsters, so he's the fastest one of all. Ripples must have caught up with you."

Sara paused. For the umpteenth time, her gaze settled on Nora.

"So. Introductions?" Sara said. "Sara Lance, we're the Legends. This is Ava, Nate, Zari, Charlie-"

"Mick," Mick said, elbowing Sara out of the way and offering a hand to Nora. "And you are?"

"Gay," Nora said quickly. "Really gay."

Mick slumped, then walked away. Significantly more perky, Sara started talking again.

"Name or nickname?" Sara said.

"Oh, er, Nora," Nora said. She didn't offer her hand, still too busy holding up the jacket.

"My daughter," Barry said.

Sara looked up. He was glaring. She winked back.

"Don't suppose you have any spare clothes here?" Nora said.

Sara glanced at her, weighing the possibilities.

"Planning first. Kinda under a time crunch," Sara said. "Time sets if you leave an alteration too long, the future starts altering. We got you out before you were locked into your future, so your powers should return if we can fix things, but the changes are still out there, ripples still going. The longer the change is left, the harder it is to undo."

"So, rewind," Cisco said. "Some speedster stopped the particle accelerator explosion? So Barry never got his powers, and I guess Nora wouldn't have inherited them..."

"But Ralph and I didn't get ours from that dark matter," Frost said. "So now we need to go back in time and kick a speedster's ass? Sounds like a tuesday."

"That's the plan," Sara said. "We'd hoped you'd still have your speed, it would make this easier, but so long as you still have your memories then you at least have a lot of experience in fighting speedsters."

Barry opened his mouth to reply, when the ship jerked. He stumbled; the Legends nearly fell but, more experienced with the ships quirks, grabbed onto chairs and tables and walls. Nora, meanwhile, tripped, accidentally flinging the jacket halfway across the room and falling to the floor.

Winded, Nora slowly started to move again, first getting up on all-fours, and then realizing how she looked and quickly crawling under the table, looking around desperately for anything else she could cover with.

"Gideon?" Sara said. "What was that?"

The ship's AI chimed in.

"The changes to history are picking up. The temporal zone is unstable."

"That doesn't sound good," Ralph said. Sara grimaced.

"Nope," she said. "Gideon, chart a course. Central City, date of the particle accelerator explosion. Let's put a stop to this sooner rather than later."

Nora stuck her head nervously out from under the table.

"And clothes?" Nora said.

Sara paused, looking down at her thoughtfully.

What excuse does Sara come up with?
