Chapter 4 by Rowenar Rowenar

What's next?

A news report

Head buzzing a bit too much to focus on working again, Jane wandered back downstairs. She kept the towel around her, even while checking that her curtains were still drawn.

Most of them were, except for the ones over the glass doors to the back of her house. Judging by the scorch marks on the ground just by there, that were where the Bifrost had dropped off Thor. At least that explained what had happened to them; Jane quickly hurried over, first making sure the door was shut before darting out of view of the glass and pushing the curtains shut. Bare feet pattered over the floor as she darted from one side to the other.

God, Mjolnir pinning her clothes down was making her jumpy. Hopefully Thor would be back to fix things soon.

Jane walked over to the lounge, sitting back in her chair. The towel fell down a little loosely. Still, with the light on and curtains drawn it was comfortable enough. Idly she reached for the remote, turning the TV on.

Might as well relax.

The image of her bed was still lingering her mind. It was almost like it was taunting her, every one of her items of clothing neatly folded and presented, and then trapped. Only the 'worthy' could help her get dressed, apparently.

She sighed. Thor was sweet, really; how many boyfriends would volunteer to take out and fold her clothes without being asked? But damn it, he could be so clueless sometimes...

"Breaking news, the Avenger known as Thor was sighted today in..."

Jane jerked up, suddenly paying more attention to the TV. At least that explained where he'd gone.

"There was a short brawl between Thor and an unknown assailant, before the Avenger was knocked ****. His current whereabouts is unknown. The motive behind the attack is uncertain; we have reached out to the Avengers for comment, but..."

Jane's eyes went wide.

He'd be fine, she was sure of that. He'd gotten out of worse. But getting taken before having a chance to summon his hammer, taken who knew where...

He'd get out of it, she was sure of that, she just wasn't sure of how long it would take. He'd told her a few stories of enemies of Asgard he'd faced, letting himself be taken prisoner for weeks at a time just to get close to someone, acting like it was sem-regular for him.

Of all the times...

Nevrously wrapping the towel around herself again, Jane stumbled up to her feet, leaving the TV on. She ran upstairs, back to her bedroom.

Hesitantly she crouched; the towel slipped slightly but she ignored it. With both hands she grasped the shirt on top of her pile of clothes; when that didn't move an inch she went lower down, hoping the **** from the hammer would be less on something further away.

But nope, Mjolnir was absolute. In a last, mad attempt she grabbed the handle of the hammer to silently plead with it. It didn't budge.

"This is a bad time to be focused on who's worthy, you know?" she said. "I kinda need my clothes back. If you'll just move off them, I swear I won't tell Thor. And- I'm talking to a hammer."

She sighed, and after a second more, gave up. Kneeling on the floor, Jane stared uselessly at her trapped clothes.

Nothing but a towel, and no sign of Thor coming back to free her clothes any time soon. It figured Thor was probably the only one she was comfortable with seeing her naked too; the thought of asking anyone else for help made her cheeks redden.

But there had to be another choice. There just had to.

Does she call someone, or work out something else?
