Chapter 5 by Nervysniper Nervysniper

Does Mackenzie enter the maze, or do one of the large plants have other plans?

A creeping vine wraps around her ankle and up her leg.

As Mackenzie had gazed around the garden, she had failed to pay attention to the ground she was walking on. Along the trodden dirt footpaths were patches of wild, overgrown grass, and small fences with vegetation pushing through the gaps from behind it. As Mackenzie looked down, her breath hitched somewhat from the scream, she saw that one such plant was a vine, having crawled out from under a fence.

Now, Mackenzie was stuck struggling against the plant that had so quickly wrapped itself around her leg, the tip having crawled up to her knee. It must have been motion activated, only coming out from it's hiding once she'd passed, and now it clung tight to her; not strong enough to hurt, but certainly strong enough that she couldn't pry it loose. Getting over her initial shock, Mackenzie had to be impressed.

They really put a lot of work into this haunted house! the red head thought. A second later, a ripple of motion passed through the vine, and Mackenzie, almost sad to stop examining it, waited for it to retract.

She was much less appreciative of the vine when, much to her horror:
