Chapter 6 by earpsrhot earpsrhot

How does Kate find out that things aren't so simple?

A big mistake

"Say, my apartment's kind of... not there," Beth said. "And it's technically your fault for not telling me, so I don't suppose you'd care to put me up for the night."

"I... sure," Kate said.

There were things she'd have preferred to do that didn't involve being naked in front of her sister. Then again, she could hardly be mad at an opportunity to talk to Beth, the real Beth, again. Even if there would be better settings for it.

Kate took her seat, crossing her arms in what she hoped looked like a casual way. Acting natural was probably even more important around family.

"So, what's new with you?" Beth said. She gestured. "Besides the obvious."

Kate blushed, and talked, managing to bluff her way through things that sounded odd. She'd need to get updated on a few things about this world.

That was how they spent the evening. After a bit they moved to a more comfortable room, and they sat side by side on the sofa, Kate holding a cushion on her lap under the guise of trying to be comfortable. Beth managed to stay friendly.

There was something nice about hearing all Beth had gotten up to, things she'd been able to do in this world. It almost distracted Kate from her new life.

After a few hours together, it got late. Kate stood up, leaving the couch to Beth, as she retired to her room. Her first night in her new, naked life passed with only a few bad dreams.

She woke up to a phone call.

Blearily, Kate reached out, and was halfway to the phone before she suddenly remembered her new life. She quickly glanced at the door to make sure it was closed.

"Hello, dear sister," Beth's voice came through the phone.

Kate yawned, still half-asleep.

"Hey," Kate said. "You're calling? Out already?"

"Of course," Beth said. Huh, something sounded slightly different with her. Kate was too tired to put her finger on exactly what. "We need to talk."

"Sure, where do you want to meet?" Kate said.

Beth paused, as if she didn't think it would be that easy.

"I know I was a bit weird last night, but it... it's a long story, don't worry," Kate said.

Beth hesitated again.

"Somewhere quiet," Kate added suddenly. "I mean, we can... attract attention, which can get in the way."

"Of course, what do you take me for? Us in a diner might raise a few eyebrows," Beth said.

Well that was right. Kate looked down at herself, cheeks warming at the memory of the last day.

"I'll text you an adderss," Beth said slowly. "You'll come alone?"

"Sister time, got it," Kate said. "Bye. See you soon."

"Er, see you," Beth said.

Kate hung up, stood up, and walked over to her drawers. Getting dressed would take less time now. She wasn't sure that was a good thing. Still, she worked on her hair, put on a watch, and stared awkwardly at her mirror.

This was going to be...

Another deep breath. She had to get used to this sooner or later. It wasn't like she had any choice.

"If you can fight supercriminals, you can do this," Kate said to her reflection.

Rather than go out the front door, Kate opened her window and slipped out, shimmying down the drainpipe, cool material pressing between her breasts and thighs as she lowered herself. The alley would be quieter than the main street. She'd consider that good.

She just had to get to one of her cars again. She should have another parked down here...

Then she just drove off, checking her phone to make sure she was heading to the right place. More time with Beth. Naked time, but still, time she never thought she'd had.

The drive felt like it took longer than it did. Even behind the wheel, she felt exposed, especially as this car lacked the tinted windows. She should have thought ahead rather than parking that one on the main street. Still, as she pulled up on her destination, she slowed.

She had asked Beth for a private place. Some abandoned looking building might have been pushing it. Still, she could hardly complain, no one else would see.

She still walked quickly once she was outside. The air made goosebumps rise on her bare flesh; she wasn't sure she'd ever get used to that.

"Beth?" Kate called.

A little nervously, she lifted one arm over her breasts, trying to pass off the gesture as natural.

"Ah, dear sister," Beth said.

Behind her. Kate turned, and froze.

That... wasn't Beth. The paler hair, the wider eyes, the manic expression.

"Alice!" Kate said.

Alice blinked.

"Why so shocked? You answered my call," Alice said.

"How are you... what? you were..." Kate stammered. "You were Beth."

"And they say I'm mad," Alice said. her grin widened. "You coming here does make this easier. You see, I've come to a decision."

"Which is?" Kate said, still trying to understand how both Alice and Beth could be in the world.

Was she meant to be a triplet now?

"I'm going to expose you to the whole city," Alice said.

"Bit late for that," Kate muttered, cheeks flaming.

"What?" Alice said. "No, I don't mean the whole nudist thing, I mean Batwoman, keep up. Once you don't have that, you can lose this whole hero complex, trying to save people that don't want to be saved."

Alice looked fervently back at her. Kate hesitated.

That was... It probably made sense to Alice's twisted mind, but honestly it was tempting. If her identity was outed, she could say the whole naked thing was a distraction and go back to wearing clothes, that-

That was selfish. No, being Batwoman was bigger than that, even if it made being Kate much more embarrassing. Kate swallowed, conflicted.

She couldn't see any other way out of her perpetual nudity, but it seemed almost too high a price.

"See, I've had a remarkable idea..." Alice said.

What does Alice plan? Can Kate get away? Does she even want to?
