Trix or Treat

An Interactive Nightmare Night Tale

Chapter 1 by Gassipons Gassipons

The curtains were drawn. The candles lit. The wind yowled through the boughs of the treehouse. Twilight had set the perfect ambience for a night of ghost stories.

Rarity, Applejack and Rainbow Dash sat in a circle, all eyes on Twilight who brought the candle up to her face. The orange glow flickered across her devious expression.

“We’re going to do things a little differently tonight. I have a very special story for you girls, the terrifying tale of a showboat getting a taste of her own medicine, a proud narcissist falling face-first like Icarus into the very depths of depravity!”

“Yeah yeah, all I’m saying’s I could tell a WAY scarier story than you. I should be the one with the candle!” Dash piped up.

Twilight huffed, disturbing the flame, “You’re spoiling the atmosphere! I promise you won’t sleep for weeks! You see, the outcome of this bone-rattling yarn is entirely up to choice...”

With this, Twilight produced something to show the group.

“All thanks to this ordinary eight-sided die!”

That wasn’t quite true. Though it appeared perfectly normal, Twilight neglected to mention the enchantment she’d placed on the die. The three ponies would think it was nothing more than a story, but whatever twisted fate the die (and mostly Twilight) dictated would unfold in real life. Twilight’s sick imagination was in control of the destiny of one very unfortunate unicorn…

“Our story begins on a dark, stormy night… not unlike this one. Moonlight falls on a wagon on the outskirts of town, weathering the wind and the rain, alone in the night… just like the pony taking up residence within. She lives in filth and squalor, travelling from town to town flaunting her mediocre magical abilities to anypony who’ll listen. Let’s call her… Tricia.”

“This is about Trixie, ain’t it?” Interjected Applejack.

Twilight paused.

“Alright, fine. We find Trixie asleep in her wagon, dreaming about herself no doubt! But she wasn’t sleeping soundly, not soundly at all! She thrashed about fitfully, twisting up her covers and murmuring in her sleep. Even deep in the world of slumber Trixie could not evade the looming threat of… something evil. Something that would greet Trixie the very moment she woke up. For you see, as soon as Trixie sprung upright, panting and heaving, she found that…”

Twilight cast the die. The ponies all leaned in, watching it tumble and finally land on…
