People have created rigs allowing them to walk in place and turn, enabling the obsession to grow to new heights in expenditure. However, one company flying below the radar, named Metavenation, promises cheap VR gear that the working class can afford in a few months of saving. Their slogan? "Here is where heroes are made." The general consensus is that you get what you pay for, and the masses assume the company is the equivalent of a traditional east-Asian bootleg. But it's something else entirely. The company remains in existence. Metavenation's headsets bring your consciousness to a whole new world--a universe that has existed alongside our own since the dawn of digital technologies, like an invisible shell emanating around the Earth. Though you won't notice it, time moves sixteen times faster, allowing all manner of wild creatures to evolve. They feed on the data of your programs, your applications, your documents, and so forth. Sometimes each other. We call them "Digimon". A portmanteau of "digital monsters".
