Chapter 7 by talon2 talon2

So who's next?

Try for the Healer Elf

You snuck around the shadowed edges of the camp, spying on the remaining three heroes. It took them awhile and you couldn't help but roll your eyes as you wished they would hurry up and advance towards the area boss like you wanted them to. Finally the healer elf relented to the fighter and Tabitha the flirty priestess. With a shrug the elf propped himself back to his feet using his staff as a crutch. "Yes I suppose we didn't really need her. It's unfortunate that she won't be able to level with us though."

The priestess spoke up at that point again, obviously not a fan of the slutty halfling. "Well it serves little miss skanksalot right for wandering off in the dark like that. What the hell was she thinking? Let's just go crush the drider and get out of this stupid swamp, Maxwell." The priestess made a show of adjusting her bust in front of the fighter, perhaps she had viewed the halfling as competition, you wonder to yourself.

"Alright then, let's get moving." The fighter motioned the group forward, not outwardly interested by the priestess' showy behavior, much to her frustration. Well, maybe she would be interested in your cock as a substitute? Or Woody Stem as it was technically called. You continued to stalk the group from the shadows of the swamp, though you split off from them once you were fairly sure what route they were taking. The halfling hadn't dropped any extra ammo with her, and you weren't sure if you would get unlimited ammo with it like monsters and other NPCs that spawned with ranged weapons did. That in mind, you split off for a bit to scrounge up several extra magazines from various loot spawn points around the swamp and set back off to find the heroes. To your delight, you find them near the last of the large spider nests on the way to the drider.

You contemplate exactly what you will do for a few minutes. If you mess this up, the three heroes will tear you apart pretty quickly. You know you want to get the elf. He's the healer and the protective light source for the group. Of course, you'll need a pretty big distraction to get him on his own. To that end you decide to use your crossbow to lure the party into spider nest. Your hope was that the party would charge in after you shot at them before getting separated and bogged down dealing with all the spiders. Once they got bogged down, you could sneak around and use the crossbow to take care of the elf.

You take cover behind a tree in the middle of the spider nest and take aim at the group. The crossbow is foreign to you, it was made for gnomes after all, but you quickly figure out the basics of it, though your first shot goes over the fighter's head. As the party looks towards where the bolt flew, attracted by the noise it made, your second shot drills the elf in the back and causes him to cry out. "Gahh! What the hell! There's no crossbow enemies in the swamp! There's a PKer out there!" You don't know what a 'PKer' is, but it sounds rather insulting. Your third shot takes the fighter in the shoulder, but unsurprisingly it seems to do little to hinder him. He grimaces and turns, spotting your form in the darkness.

"It came from over there!" He points out your general area to his allies. "Let's go! don't let that bitch get away!" Well, you certainly pissed them off. The elf casts a healing spell on the fighter before healing himself of his somewhat more serious, though still non-threatening, injury as the group rushes into the clearing.

You beat a hasty retreat, managing to stay out of the healer's light since he was delayed healing himself. This doesn't stop the priestess from trying to blast you with a cone of lightning, and then a larger lightning burst spell when the first missed. Neither attack hits you, her accuracy was pretty terrible when she couldn't see anything outside the healer's light. That and you were being careful to stay away from any light-emitting plants. Now though you slow down as you here more shouts.

"Hey slow down you two! I'm falling behind!" The healer called out in a nervous voice.

"Catch up, I think I see the PKer!" The priestess wasn't anywhere near you, despite her confidence otherwise. Her over-eagerness was already getting them in trouble.

As if on cue, the fighter started shouting. "Wait up guys this isn't...SHIT spiders!" You watch him draw his blades as two of the beasts drop from the trees, only to be cut to pieces by the swords. But those weren't the only ones, not even close. They began to drop by twos and threes all over the place. They didn't bother you since you were a fellow monster, fated to be beaten on relentlessly by heroes just as they were, however they took less kindly to the belligerent priestess throwing lightning bolts all over their woods and five of them rushed her from their burrows. She did a good job frying them with some lightning spells, but more were coming.

Things were going worse for the unfortunate healer at the rear of the group. The other two had triggered a number of spiders as they had chased after you, however since these attacked the nearest target, and they didn't drop down until seconds after they were activated they ended up going after the healer instead of the other two.. "Guys this isn't good! I need assistance over here!" The healer was a little panicked as he hit away spiders with his staff, occasionally casting blinding flashes of light at the spiders to drive them back. He also had bolt spells he could toss, some fire spells that were decently powerful but only damaged a single target, they were hardly useful against the spider mob that was attacking him.

"For shit's sake Eboth, don't be such a bitch, they're just spiders!" The priestess electrocuted another group of spiders as she taunted her healer, missing the fact that he was on the verge of being overrun.

Even now, spiders were starting to get through his guard, taking small nibbles on him and chipping away at his health, with some attacks doing poison damage that would stack with the ongoing damage from other bites. The poison would of course vanish along with the wounds every so often as the elf healed himself, but it was a vicious cycle. As the healer healed himself, the spiders were able to press the attack and do more damage to him, forcing him to stop healing and fight them off before he could start healing himself again. This all effectively prevented him from healing his allies.

Maxwell looked to be handling the spiders better than Eboth, though he had a handful of scratches and a lucky bite to show that as good as he was, some of the spiders were making it through. "Dammit Eboth I've been taking poison damage for a good thirty seconds now what are yo-for FUCK'S sake!" He had just turned and caught sight of how much trouble the party's healer was in. "Shit! Tabitha! Help Eboth!"

"But I'm busy!" The priestess complained as she slaughtered another mass of spiders before turning and realizing that Eboth was in trouble, the healer was definitely looking much weaker, spiders were starting to pile on him and he couldn't even heal all of the damage in one go anymore. It occurred to you that both the healer and priestess were probably starting to run low on mana given how many spells they had thrown at the spiders. Now though both the priestess and the fighter were battling towards the healer, and it looked like they would be able to take the pressure off of him soon.

At this point you realized two things, another magazine of bolts had appeared in your inventory, indicating you now spawned ammo for your repeating crossbow; and you were actually inside the boss zone. This meant you could draw the drider over here to completely fuck over the party while they were weakened by the spider encounter. Of course there was a downside to bringing the drider in that it would be tougher to get kills yourself, with more XP likely going to the drider than to your lowely self.

What's your plan for the party?
