Chapter 12 by Ben Rosewood Ben Rosewood

To the Dungeon...

To the Dungeon

Mercifully, the distance to the dungeon is not long, but even the few houses I passed seem to have lonely housewives waiting to comment.

"Fresh catch by the docks, Captain?" One housewife asks.

"Only the best in Dravenport's waters." Lexa replies.

"Any more like that?" Another asks.

"'Fraid not. This fish is one of a kind."

"He's a real prize catch then."

"Sure is."

We arrive at the dungeon, where a male guard approaches us. "What's going on Captain?"

"We need to lock this one up, at least for now."

"Yes ma'am."

The guard opens the door. Lexa leads me into the lobby, walks past a group of guards, and heads towards the desk, where an Elven woman is waiting.

"Ohh, the legend returns." She says to the Captain.

"Yes."

"How long will he be staying this time?"

"Who knows? It's going to be a long investigation."

"That's okay, we can take care of that stud for you." Another female guard volunteers.

"I doubt any of you ladies could handle the sword this one has."

Laughter fills the room as Lexa signs whatever she needs to sign. "C'mon Ahab."

Lexa leads me downstairs to the one place I didn't want to revisit: The Dravenport Dungeons. The chill of the cold corridor reminds me that no matter how long I spend here, it's going to be miserable. As much as I wanted to fight it, I know all I can do is accept my fate.

The Captain makes sure to place me in the furthest cell, where I tell her "You don't believe I'm involved this, do you?"

"Doesn't matter what I believe. I have a job to do."

It's not exactly what I want to hear, but it could be worse. Captain Lexa leaves me alone in my cell. Hopefully, this mess will get sorted out and I can leave Dravenport once and for all. For now, I'll just have to be patient.

What's next?
