Chapter 6 by Dekkar Dekkar

what is the prince's decision?

To set up camp - and a trap, leaving the boar for me.

The prince looks between the members of his party "We are going to back to that clearing and set up a camp and fortify as we can." Before two proponents of the hunt can start their arguments again he slashes a hand through the air "And we will be setting fires tonight. Fililiel, you will shed some of your blood on the firestones before any are lit. Two per watch in rotating shifts, you can figure out the details amongst yourselves when we're done setting up." And he simply begins marching north before any can dissent. They follow behind him quickly enough.

I could follow them, it wouldn't be hard to do, but... They're not food. Tonight, at least, bacon is on the menu. As soon as they have walked a distance I fly through the air following the path of shredded ferns and ripped vines along the boars winding path through the jungle. Trees have chunks of bark missing or even pieces of them shattered through, and one particularly brittle one was hit dead on and exploded, thrown away from its jagged stump in pieces.

I reach the edge of a large clearing in which sits several hills. over a dozen small, pathetic little dog-like creatures with twiggy spears, perhaps just sharpened (or unsharpened?) sticks are trying to fight a massive boar, a brown-grey haired creature with a row of thick black spines on either side and atop its spine. Its tusks are each at least four feet long, and the beast itself is at least seven feet long and six tall. Its tusks are sharply pointed and seemingly barbed, and one is already adorned with one of the dog-things.

I creep forwards sticking close to the trampled and torn up grasses of the hills, passing by a trampled dog thing, its pale grey flesh and blood completely unapealing, and on a scrawny frame, hardly three feet in height with an oversized head and large floppy ears, something between an elf and a hound. As I get close enough to activate my God's Eye on the boar it turns to kick at one foe and gore at another, and its left side becomes exposed to me, along with the shattered handle of a spear stuck in just behind the shoulder.

The inky blackness that clung to my carapace faded away as I was processing the information, and now the great beast turns its head towards me.
