Chapter 4 by lolhappy250 lolhappy250

Brace for...

The unexpected

You closed you eyes and winced, feeling something hard smash into your face, then a cool, pleasantly tingly liquid soaked your head and shoulders, then something weird.

doot-doodala-doo A strange fanfare from no where played.

That sound. So familiar. But where have you heard it–

Your head got heavier, it was unexpected and nearly tipped you over, breaking you out of your thoughts in the process. Before you could fully comprehend what was going on, your body rapidly filled out, expanding, balancing out the new weight on your head.

Then there was silence and stillness.

You opened your eye's slowly. Out of the edges of your vision you were saw something curly and grey...and attached to your head, whaaaaa–

"That was a potion for leveling up pets." The ranger's voice was muffled by his hand as he face-palmed.

Level up. You were awed by those words, the rogue on the other hand was more gobsmacked by her stupidity. As the words sunk in blood started to rush to your head and you heart started to beat frantically at the possibilities. You started to numb to the world, hearing only your heavy heartbeats, then focused hard on your stats.

Ram
Level: 2
Melee Attack: 1-3
Ranged Attack: 1-3
Weakness: none
Special Abilities: Hard headed - Horns added to weapon slot, and physical attacks from the front deal 25% less damage.
Skill gained! - Charge - Charge forward at high speeds! (Damaged based on STR and AGI)

You could hardly believe it, you got a level, You got a skill! YOU CAN DEAL DAMAGE! This was amazing.

You were so caught up in what happened, you just barely heard the heroes talking.

"I could take it as a pet, but it's just a ram. They're only rare spawns here, and the only useful skill they've got as a pet is Golden Fleece. They don't even drop anything good, just horns, and only half the time." It was said in a nasally voice.

Yeah. that was starting to sound familiar. You vaguely remember seeing ram's before. They were cowards, slightly faster than you, and you don't remember them ever using skills. Golden fleece sounded familiar too but far more distant, you think it was from the testing era.

The blood still rushing to your head you zoned out again, the talk of skills made you think of your more detailed stats, so you decided to take a look at them.

The important bits seemed to have showed up in general stats, everything was still too low to really mean a damn under current circumstances. The only thing of real note was your health jumped from five to thirty, though that really only meant you might survive a single attack if you were lucky, nothing too amazing, but the fuck was that! Your movement speed was five times what it was before. YOU CAN FUCKING RUN NOW!

You couldn't help letting out a bleat of triumph. The sound that came out wasn't your normal adorable bleat though, this sound was deep, and throaty, and some what disturbing, well considering it was coming from a 'cloud with legs.'

A chill soon went down your spine as the rogue stared daggers at you. You beating heart slowed, and your head started to clear.

"Well I'm going to go make you some awesome armor, uh b-babe." The ranger giggled nervously.

Before the rogue could respond the Ranger pulled out a scroll and opened a portal to town. Inside the portal you saw all sorts of sights, hundreds upon hundreds of elves, dressed up in everything from tattered newbie rags, to impractical yet beautiful costumes, to terror inducing armor that must have needed levels deep in the double digits at the very least. The smells that wafted through were amazing too, nothing like your meadow that smelled of blood, sheep feces, and daisies. The sights quickly vanished once the ranger stepped into the portal and it winked out of existence, but the wonderful smells still lingered.

Now it was just you and the fat rogue, eyeing you spitefully.

You could try and avoid a fight, maybe make do with your level, and slaughter your mindless brethren for levels, though that would undoubtedly take a while, in which other heroes may show up and destroy all your efforts, and that was assuming you could even avoid a fight. You could also try and land the first blow against the rogue, it was a gamble, she still had six levels on you, but she accidentally leveled you up, who knows what other stupid shit she might do.

If you did fight, you'd have to use your brains though. In an open field a fair fight would put you in deep shit, it didn't matter that you could actually attack. All she'd need is for you to slip up just a little, and even she could get in a lucky strike, probably all it would take to kill you, even with your boost. Heroes might have less health than the average monster, but you were just a critter, so heroes still had the upper hand in almost every department.

What to do?
