You read Miranda's name silently in your head, glancing at her for a split second.
Time, you would need more of it, to exogitate a way to get her off that situation.

Because, even if she didn't seem to have liked your previous attempt, you still feel the need to rescue her from Tom's clutches, no matter what.

But are you actually doing the right thing?
Deep down, you know there's the chance that Miranda, under the appearences , which she may feel comprehensibly embarassed to drop, doesn't despise him that much (not as much as you at least), that she's actually somewhat ok with what's happening, whith what's doing to her, and you should probably just let her be.

But deep down, it just doesn't feel right to you ... she seems to pretty much letting the odds decide her partner, which is quite dimsmaying ... even more given that the luky one is not you.
