Chapter 20 by simmaster simmaster

Well...?

The line between bravery and foolishness...

No, you're not going to lie here like a coward while your friends are killed by some bored heroes looking for pastime! As soon as they step over you, you quietly get to your feet and stab one of the two heroes in the back with your dagger.

...Only to rather swiftly reconsider upon seeing what you're up against. The one you just stabbed is dressed in some pretty advanced-looking leather armor and wielding a bow, with a pair of daggers as backup by his hips. The other is dressed in scaled armor and carries a two-handed sword of silver. He certainly came prepared for werewolf hunting... Silver weapons deal a ridiculously high amount of bonus damage to werewolves like you.

But you've chosen to attack and if you're going to have any chance surviving that choice you've got to commit, so you pull your dagger back out of the first hero's back and stabs him a few more times while the other one turns around to see what's causing the ruckus. Then you take a few quick steps back as he attempts to slice you in half with that scary silver sword. The other hero turns around, moaning in pain from your stabs, and upon registering their source he puts an arrow on his bow and aims at you.

"Let me guess..." the one with the bow says. "There is really a werewolf. And you're it."

"Obviously," you reply, trying and failing to sound confident. However you do gain a bit of confidence upon seeing that the noise has awakened your wolf friends, and the heroes are currently facing away from them.

The moment that the archer fires his arrow, the wolves throw themselves at both heroes, causing the arrow to miss you by a wide margin. You take advantage of the distraction by rushing in and stabbing the archer. Technically the swordsman is the greater threat because of his silver weapon, but the archer is the one keeping you from running away. You would love to be able to fight in a more open space, like the forest, but in order to get there without getting an arrow in your neck you need to kill the archer.

The archer struggles to switch from his bow to his daggers, and you glance over to the swordsman to see that he's about to swing his sword at one of the wolves. You give him a sharp kick to his leg to stop his attack as you continue your **** on the archer with your dagger, and as you see the archer's health drop you decide to let the wolves finish him, throwing him to the side. He falls onto the hard stone and the wolves rush to make quick work of him.

You order the wolves attacking the swordsman to join the ones focusing on the archer using gestures and noises, and to your relief they understand and rush to their kin, leaving you with the swordsman. He turns towards you menacingly, his face covered with a surprisingly intimidating leather helmet with little holes allowing for sight and breathing as the only feature of an otherwise sleek visor.

Do you survive?
