Chapter 27 by simmaster simmaster

Where to go first?

The inn.

If you need information, you go to the inn. You didn't live in a village all your life without learning that.

You easily locate the inn by the large hanging sign with a standard-looking tankard of ale painted on it. Walking inside, you find a large, dimly lit room with small tables spread out everywhere, most of which with heroes and NPCs sitting around them, and of course the bartender standing behind his desk. Nothing special appears to be happening. No drunk brawls, no one's passed out on the floor, no one's even weeping into the table while chugging beer. People are just talking, drinking, and gambling with dice, cards and cups. All in all, a very standard inn.

You walk up to the bartender, whom you can't figure out if he's a dwarf or a midget. He's short, that's for sure, but he doesn't have a beard. Or hair, for that matter, but that's less important in determining his race.

You decide it doesn't matter and simply ask him for some rumors and what he knows about any nearby areas.

"Well, not much goes on around here, friend," the bartender says in an uninterested tone while he focuses on cleaning mugs. "And I don't know much 'bout anything outside town. If you need to know anything about this inn, I'm your guy. Otherwise, I'm put to better use serving you drinks. Speaking of which, need something to sate your thirst?"

If you did that wouldn't matter, you don't have a single coin on you. So instead you declare the bartender useless for what you're after and turn, scanning the bar for someone better fit for talking to. The NPCs most likely don't know much of anything, most of them have probably never even left the town, so you begrudgingly arrive at the conclusion that you should talk to a hero. Though you're not sure if that's a good idea... Maybe your questions aren't very NPC-like and will draw suspicion to you...

Then you spot a familiar face.

The elf tank is sitting by a table alone. Her party isn't in sight. Maybe they haven't managed to regroup after respawning, or maybe it was a very temporary arrangement. You know that heroes sometimes team up just to complete a quest together or achieve some other common goal.

A part of you wants to walk over to her and talk... And you're pretty sure that part is located between your legs. Your brain on the other hand says it's probably not a good idea. On the off-chance that she somehow recognizes you even though you're in your human form.

Who will you talk to?
