The Girl with Stars for Eyes

The next morning, I woke up to the sound of a knock at my door. They told me to get myself dressed for the day and said someone would come soon to take me to the king. I don’t really have much other than my old clothes and new armor so I decided to put on my armor since I’m probably setting out on my journey today. It wasn’t long until there was another knock on the door. I opened it this time to see a young girl with short blue hair and an unusual pair of eyes. They were red and in the shape of a star. As I wondered what that was about, the girl started talking to me.

“Hey mister, my dad wants to meet you in the throne room.”

Throne room? I guess it's already time for my adventure to begin.

“Okay, lead the way.”

The girl nodded and started walking to the throne room. I wondered who was going to accompany me on this journey. The king did say that I had a teammate that I was meeting today.

I mumbled, “Normally, the first teammate I partner up with should be a beautiful and busty elf companion with long blonde hair.”

I continued to maneuver through the castle until I was lead to the dining area. There was a long black dining table with a bunch of foods spread across it. The king was in the middle of breakfast when he looked up at me confused. He then looked down at the little girl and things seemed to click into place for him.

“I see my daughter, Alice has lead you here without my permission. Grab a seat and dig in. These were made with my wife in mind but she seems to be skipping breakfast with me today as well.”

I grabbed a plate and just picked a bunch of things that looked edible. I don’t really know what most of these things are or how they were made but I feel like I’m better of not knowing for now. Alice sat down and started eating as well. We all ate in silence for a bit until the king spoke up.

“Today’s the day you start your journey. I wanted my wife to see you off with your companion but it seems that she has no faith in the hero ritual.”

“Ritual?”

“Yes, each of the countries has agreed that they can only summon one hero to help fight off the waves in their country. I have summoned you to help our country fight the waves but my wife thinks that it would be better to train up an elite squadron instead of relying on a hero. We decided that we could do both. I would summon the hero while she would train up the squadron. Unfortunately, that means that most of the people that would team up with you are going to be trained in her squad instead.”

“How many people are teaming up with me then?”

Alice jumps up from her seat. “I know this one. It’s one.”

The king sighs and says, “Alice is right, you only have one companion at this time.”

“Mother said that she didn’t need an elf in her squadron.”

“Why wouldn’t she want an elf?”

“There’s a negative stigma attached to them because of the last world war. The elves were a major threat and caused a lot of damage throughout the lands. They were so powerful that it took the cooperation of multiple kingdoms to fight against them. That’s why the elves have their own territory and it's bigger than the rest because of their strength. It's also why in almost all the countries except one, elves are treated with scorn and ****. I don’t know the whole story regarding your new companion but she was taken in by the previous ruler of this country and raised in the castle as a maid. You don’t have to worry about her skills though. She has gone out to hunt monsters before so she’ll be a competent ally to you in your adventure.”

After breakfast, we all went to the throne room where I was introduced to my partner, Kim. Kim was dressed in blue battle armor that covered her entire body. Her armor couldn’t hide her enormous boobs. Not only that, Kim had long blonde hair just like I thought she would. She kneeled down in front of the king.

“Thank you for bestowing upon me this sacred duty. I promise that I will do my best to protect this land and its citizens.”

The king nodded and turned toward me. I locked eyes with Kim and I could see the determination in her eyes. It didn’t hit me how serious the matter was until I met Kim’s eyes. I gathered my resolved and reached out my hand toward Kim.

“Please join me on this journey.”

“I accept.”

She takes my hand and rises back onto her feet. The king then led the two of us to the hourglass. The hourglass informs us of the amount of time until the next wave and will teleport us there when the time comes if we are willing to. The king gave us one last gift before we left. He gave up camping equipment, rations, a map of the country, and other essential supplies to help us on our journey. We give our goodbyes as we make our way out of the castle and through the town until we arrive at Tom’s shop. The whole time we were making our way through town Kim had a cloak over her head to hide her ears to make sure we didn’t run into any trouble. I looked through his selection of eggs but all the good ones were way too expensive even with the hero’s discount he was giving me.

I picked one of the random eggs in the discount bucket in the hopes I got a grand prize which was a fire dragon as opposed to the most likely choice of a wind eagle. I inspected it with my weapon but it didn’t give me much info.
