Chapter 28 by daciasdesire daciasdesire

Tomorrow is another day.

Suns out, guns out.

I’m going about a pretty normal Sunday. I head on down to the beach to have a swim in the waves and get a little bit of sun on my body. One of the disadvantages of working nights is I miss out on a lot of the sun but when I have a nice quiet day without classes or work, I’m glad to enjoy the best Western Australia has to offer. I’m lying on my towel feeling the warm sun slowly baking my back when I hear my phone ringing from within my small backpack I brought. I fish it out in time to receive a call from Yui.

“Hey, honey. Are you busy? Can you talk?” Yui asks when I answer her call.

“Sure. Always got time for you gorgeous,” I tell her back.

Yui goes into why she is calling me, “so, I’m over at Piya’s.”

“Oh,” I can’t help but comment at that news.

“It’s fine, honestly,” Yui quickly adds.

“No broken windows this time?”

“Not yet anyway,” Yui says with a laugh. “So, the reason I called is Piya told me you and her spoke last night and you made her realise she’s been terrible in the way she’s acting and she called me over to apologise and make things right between us.”

“That’s fantastic,” I say.

“I wanted to tell you you’ve been the greatest boyfriend to me so far and I’m so happy we found each other and we’re together.”

“I feel the exact same way too,” I tell Yui truthfully.

Yui then says something with a laugh that makes me panic just a little inside. “You know I’m so surprised Piya would admit to being in the wrong like that. I wouldn’t have put it past her to take another crack at you behind my back.”

I keep things light instead of revealing that’s exactly what Piya had done, saying, “even if she did it wouldn’t have worked. I’ve only got eyes for you baby.”

Yui coos happily to that and then invites me out for another date that week.

“My school is having a little sundowner for the end of term and we can bring a plus one if we like. I’d really love it if I could show you off as my boyfriend to the people I work with.”

“I’d love to be introduced to everyone as your boyfriend. Did you want to spend the night at my house again afterwards?”

“Just try and stop me.”

After that, we exchange our soppy goodbyes and I remind her to not break any more windows. If she does have to throw a table to aim for the wall.

Returning to my relaxing beach sunbake, I roll over onto my back to give my front some sun. The afternoon before work spent blissfully with just the sun, sea and seagulls for company.

One last shift for the weekend.
